I grabbed some Kashmir Pearl spraypaint from supercheap auto a couple of weekends ago and painted my dash. Couldnt use silver cause my car is red/orange so I went for a warmer coulour. Just sanded, used plastic primer and then the paint turned our pretty good. Pretty tough and havent had any scratches yet. What do you guys think?

Ahh they're working. Looks pretty snazzy. How many man hours did it take you to get it all done?

About 10, haha but realisticly if I were to do it again probably under 4. Paint only takes about 20 mins to dry but I did bits that I had to take back out again cause I was unhappy with the result. Did about 4 coats on average.

now i'm even more convinced than ever to paint the top half of my centre console in silver as well...

but i'm curious to know how you managed to paint the door handle section as well...

Take apart the door...Doesnt take long about 15 mins. Trick is to spray the parts speratly.

Yeah really love the job on that door handle..

How to take that handle apart?

My flatmate and I have pretty much been mirroring our mods and he has a silver FTO. He used Argon silver which looks really good (ill try to get him to post some pics soon) but Id probably go with a silver that has a little less blue to it. The door really isnt that hard take it off the frame and then take out all the screws (theres heaps). It might be a little stuck to the material but coems off rpetty easy after that. Grab a phillips head and I think a No 10 socket and give it a go

And I assum they sell the plastic primer as well....?

And yes I am very curious about the door as well.
I looked at it once before too and I'm quite sure that they parts you painted as stuck to the door. Not screwed.

FTO12345 - Theres no part of the handle stuck to the door. I cant stress how easy it is no instructions nessesary. As for the paint theres heaps! My flatmate had to choose from about 15 silvers untill he decided on argon. I think there just touchup paint, probably the same from autobarn and the like. Primer we got from autobarn I think.

G1 - Yeah it is ricey but my car all about rice Im going for the neon undercar, footwell and led dash the works! Haha. But for the more conservative this paint mod really isnt that bad its all about the colour you choose and what panels you paint. I got the idea from my mates Stock mazda 636, there insane with CF here, veloure there and chrome everywhere else, compared to that its not too bad. Id argue that it would increase resale to some buyers

as for being ricey.. hmm, depends on your interpretation.

I've always considered rice to represent cosmetic "enhancements" to give the impression of a fast/powerful car. IMO interior mods don't fit that classification. Although changing the colour of interior panels obviously has no performance impact, nor does it try to bignote the car when on the road.

However, this might just be my last stitch effort to excuse my ricery.. what do you think?

And as far as the rice thing goes I reckon who cares, if it's your car do what you want to it within the law and enjoy the joy of modifiy your car. As for when selling comes around I'm sure the next owner can paint it another colour if they like. The amount of imports I've seen that have about 4 or 5 different colours on some of the interior parts when sanded back and primed for a new colour as always suprised me.

i was after a more chrome silver, kinda to match the silvery decals ive got on the side of my car, i'd settle for just a nice silver though, hey mikey what was the colour u used on your car??

Satellite silver, same as the silver Lancers/FTOs...

I personally dont think its a "rice mod"

as posted before, all the new alfas, monaros, etc etc all have that brushed alloy look interior now. If you get the right paint and get a good finish - it looks more european then rice???

however, if not done professionally, could lose big time resale - howver generally i guess resale will be directed at 18-25 so may not have such a problem.

after a while, wouldn't u start getting kashmir on your thumb and the color of the shift button goin off??

yeah the colour/finish is questionable/subjective as to whether it blends in with the existing interior and compliments the overall theme... but i agree that finish is everything and if it looks like plastic painted in silver, then in my eyes thats just tacky.... if you could give it the brushed alu finish or a glossy finish like ive seen in the porsche boxter... that would be nice... but i really couldnt guess by looking at the photos about the overall finish... perhaps a close up picture??

i really dont like anything that makes the car look like it wasnt meant to be there, or trying to look like something but not quiet achieving it... but thats just stupid old me again, i can see how some 17-25 year olds would love it
