Has anyone tried one of these before? - I've had a look around and they're really hard to get a hold of seeing as they're not made anymore, nor have I found a lot of feedback about the effect of tuning the mivec kick in so any help appreciated!

These have been tested numerous times, and it was found that the factory kick in point was actually the most efficient/effective.
I'm sure Aza (and whoever else has played with them) will chime in soon.

I always thought the factory kick in point was so slow/late so I thought lowering it to 4000rpm or something would increase hp. Damn

from the wrong application of mivec, yes it is slow but think about it for a sec.
If your using mivec you want to go fast, so your going to rev the sh*t out of it.
In first its quick to get up to 8.2k (although i wouldnt recommend at all doing this often - go to say 7k, not sure how much the box can handle ) which would then put you close to mivec in second gear, which then if revved to 8.2k in second would put you in mivec in third and vice versa, so essentially your 'always' in mivec if your going hard and wont notice it at 4k.
You lowering it would only mean your car uses a tonne more fuel and works a lot harder in a daily drive where its not really needed. Imo if your going to need mivec you shouldnt be needing it at 4k, as its not necessary if your 'doing it right'
The short answer was no, it wont benefit you having it at 4k as the engine doesnt have enough rpm to benefit enough from increased lift and duration.

Yeah i established why the factory kick in is at 5500rpm as you mentioned if you're driving it hard - mivec will kick in at the start of each gear, but i wouldn't mind a quicker mivec kick when coming out of roundabouts for example, you come out at say 30km/h in second gear and nothing really happens until mivec kicks in.. For this scenario you would think tuning your mivec to kick in at 4000rpm would increase your acceleration?

Just put a set of extractors in I enjoy a nice solid Lower end now thanks to them

Haha, I've already got extractors and a 2.5" exhaust - still not happy It ran 107kW on the dyno but i wouldn't mind a bit more!

I think a piggy back would net you more gains than a Mivec controller anyway.

Alright, well since we're already heading towards the topic - any ideas of what kind of gains i'd be looking at from a piggy back?
