Anyone with experience is able to help me out? I have all the tools but not sure what to remove to get to the pan bolts.
Located in the Sydney City.

Gotta drop the lower crossmember off the gearbox (all 17mm socket work) then drop the lower section of the exhaust off (also 4 x 17mm nuts)

Then just undo all the 10mm bolts from around the pan & a light tap with a mallet will see it off.

how hard to remove the crossmember and exhaust? i have to do them on jacks.

As for the exhaust, correct me if wrong, but 2 bolts on either side of the engine coming from the manifolds.

Those bolts will be the worst, practically welded on.
Then the exhaust can just hang from the flex.

you'd want to get some replacement 'O' gaskets, or use the putty, but better to do it right.

Yeah the exhaust bolts can be a bit of ass to get off, but there are only 4 of them (2 front bank, 2 rear)

Just soak them in WD40 for a while first.

oh..so thats called the cross member! lol. i removed that before when repalcing the engine mounts. so its just that and the exhaust and it will be good for pan removal? sounds alright to me.

i will need gasket sealant, new engine oil, and will i need gasket for the exhaust? if any? damn, my engine oils are just barely 1000km.

The exhaust gaskets are really only dry gaskets, you'd only need to goo them if you damage the gasket on the way off. If you do, use this stuff (available at most auto shops.)



For the sump itself, you need to make sure you clean all the old gasket off, it will most likely be a grey or red rubbery goo. You should scrape all the old goo off both the sump & the underside of the engine, then give them both a wipe over with metho or turps to ensure the surface is clean enough for new goo. The stuff you should use to reseal is 3 Bond Gasket sealer or equivalent.



Again, most auto shops will stock it or something similar.

As for your oil... Just capture it in a clean container & pour it back in!

Im pretty sure you don't need to remove anything if you just want to seal up a leak? Just drop it a couple on cm and squeeze some sealant in there.

Or you can just clean up the area and squeeze some sealant on the outside of the sump as it's a low pressure area.

I'm pretty sure you can drop the sump by just removing the drive shaft? I can't recall removing anything else.

I just did this 3 times, no need to take crossmember out at all.

In order.

1. Remove starter motor
2. Remove collector pipe bolts from exhaust manifold
3. Remove oilpan (dont forget to take the bolt out that holds the dipstick to the engine)

Ah I remember the starter needed to be removed!

what an evening!
Took the cross member out.
Took the starter motor out for the first time....smells like sh*t.
Exhaust bolts are tough, and I screwed up one of the rear exhaust bolt. The nut did not give way and the whole bolt came out with the nut! Any advice?

Last but not least, managed to remove all the pan bolts but 2 next to the flywheel. My socket is too fat! Spanner does not work. HELP!!!!

I'm feeling really bad now after spending 3 hours on the creeper smelling all those sh*t.

The stud coming out with the nut is no real problem on the manifold, just put it back in that way and it'll be fine.

really? i knew something is wrong as after a few power turns, i can see the gap opening but the nut is still intact, with no impact wrench with me, i had to keep going until the whole bolt dropped out.
Its going to be a pain putting it back on.

By the way, the gasket looks pretty flakey, how do i treat that? still good to use?
