Hi guys,
I'm currently in the market for a GR Alternator (2-pin). Located in Melbourne.

If possible, I can trade you a passenger side headlight :)

Thanks

I have one.

I bought it new (not remanufactured or reconditioned but properly new) in December 09, probably has around 10,000 km on it. The only reason that I have removed it is due to my Mivec conversion.

It has an under driven pulley on it, meaning it is less of a load (resulting in more power going to the wheels) but as a result, it produces less power at low rpm. I never had any problems with it, even with my big sub cranked but if you don't like the idea of an under driven pulley, you can use the pulley from your existing alternator. Just make a decision before installing it as they are a pain to swap out.

I am after $160 + postage.

I'm interested but didn't want to pay as much as $160. I'm happy to trade a headlight (valued between $100-$150) and some extra cash however :)
Cheers

I saw one sell for $100 not long ago. I'm trying to save as much as possible, living out of home and being at Uni full-time drains your bank account :(

Hey Paya, where abouts can you get the exchange units from? Might try install a new alternator next weekend.

It's on it's way out. Half the time when I brake it flashes my headlights. Also when I slow down (not using the brakes) after some rapid speed it flashes.

Cheers

Make sure you get a good warranty with the exchange unit. An exchange unit is just an old alternator which has been reconditioned. I had an old unit reconditioned once and only got around 6 months out of it.

Make sure that the reconditioned unit has had the regulator and rectifier (electrical) as well as the bushes and bearings (mechanical) replaced. If they haven't replaced both the regulator and the rectifier, don't expect too long out of it.

Why would you spend $200 on a reco unit when you can buy a brand new one for $179? With a 2 year, 40k warranty.

An alternator is something I'd never skimp out on, too much of a pain in the ass to swap out (and expensive if someone's doing it for you too.)

Wow, that's nicely misleading for the skim reader / picture looker such as myself.

Having said that, the add also nicely describes what other makes & models share the same alternator..

L300 - Brand new @ $200 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-L ... 969wt_1139 (Would need to swap pulley with existing unit)
L300 - Brand new @ 259 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-L ... 040wt_1396
Sonata - Brand new @ $220 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hyundai-Sona ... 244wt_1163

Pity the MIVEC units aren't shared.

And I'd agree with you Bennoz for the pain of changing an FTO alt.

Most other cars, zero issues so wouldn't phase me, but not the FTO.
