Good news for 5spd tip owners

Went to a CV place today to have the CV done, annoyingly they decided they wanted to replace the entire shaft.
Despite my telling them they won't have it, they insisted.
Ofcourse it didn't work, they simply put in a 4spd and the violent shaking began.
Instead of putting my old shaft in, he came back to me about an hour later

and informed he had made a custom shaft.
Wouldn't tell me what it's a hybrid of, but venturing a guess it's a Magna/ FTO/ Lancer combination.
So people know, the difference with the 5spd, it has a different inner cv and a longer shaft than either a 4spd or manual.
So, if you're one of the very few who need a new 5spd shaft drivers side, then get in contact with: CV Joints Australia in Auburn NSW. and Ask for a 5spd Tip shaft, they will ask the year, but simply tell them it's the longer FTO shaft they 'don't' stock.
In other news we still have that damn noise

The joints are shared between other Mitsubishi models. I had no trouble getting the outer CV on mine from the first drive shaft place I called as it's shared with an early 90's Magna.

I'm still going with Torque Converter after you said yours revved lower at highway speed than everyone elses...

You don't think that'd be the 5th gear he's got tucked away in that box?
I dunno now, all possibilities eliminated from down there
apart from the box... maybe its a shot diff bearing
Obviously you've done the tip oil, don't spose you saw the colour of it when it came out?

According to completefto, the 5AT has a 0.731:1 5th gear, while the 4AT has a 0.712:1. Not saying you're wrong, as there's the possibility of a different final-drive ratio, but assuming they have the same final drive then the 5spd should rev higher on the highway, no?

They have very different final drive ratios, the 4spd has a 4.407:1 & the 5spd has a 3.735:1
Regardless, if it was the torque converter that was going, firstly you'd smell it, secondly it would throw an ECU error saying input shaft speed variation & as a result, be jumping in & out of limp mode.

f**king lol's

Kustom.
Not the gearbox, had it looked at recently.
Interestingly, the car need to have load on the tyres for the noise to be made.
Off the ground free spinning through the gears, the car makes no noise....

Were you sitting in the garage on the jack stands, pretending to be a rally driver again?
