I have a noise that is coming from the front passenger side wheel that is frustrating me.

It sound is only present occasionally, occurs when I am turning left, sounds sort of like metal rubbing, not scraping and seems to have nothing to do with when I brake. I initially thought it was the metal behind the disc brake rubbing on the disc but I don't see any evidence of that.

Any suggestions?

I believe it's this as I have the same problem but not 100% sure
But as I said I could be wrong

How long has this been happening, always or new noise?
It couldn't be as simple as tyre rubbing inner guard, could it?

Warped brake disc?

Mine did that before I changed them over. Maybe your brake pad isn't seated correctly?

Ask him if it sounds like our noise. lol

i had similar prob when i had my new rotor fitted. the metal plate guard thingy is touching my rotor which caused the sound
not very sure bout yours but

Your pad is always in contact with your rotor even when not braking. I would look at your pads.

I changed my drop links a few years back, they were making more of a squeaking noise over bumps but I will check that they are still in good condition.

It is a new noise and I can't seem to reproduce it while the car is up on stands. (Probably should have mentioned this in the original post ) I will double check but I believe that nothing in that area is loose or rubbing.

Would this happen only when turning? Specifically, my noise only happens turning left. I would have thought that a warped rotor would be noticeable in any direction and prodominantly when braking.

He hasn't, but because it doesn't always do it, I am hesitant to pester him.

This was my initial thought and I tried to bend the metal plate a fair way back. (I am running the bigger GPX brakes on my GR.) I just don't see any rubbing marks.

Pads still have plenty of material left on them and seem to be in reasonable condition. I would think that if it was a pad issue, it would show up driving in a straight line also.


Now that I think about it, the noise started after my engine transplant. Is it possible that it is the driveshaft making this noise?

See if the lower part of your sway bar link is rubbing on the suspension bracket directly behind it. Bracket should have rubbing marks on it, if it is rubbing.

Next time you hear the running noise apply a bit of brake and see if the sound goes away.

Big thanks to Bennoz for bending the metal plate behind my rotor. I was convinced that it was bent back far enough but Bennoz suspects otherwise.
