has anyone had any previous experience with hiring a car trailer for a day??

just curious to know how much they generally cost to hire and how easy it is to load up / unload.

would be even better if someone on here owns one they are willing to let me use / help me for the right price.

When I rented a car trailer years ago it was roughly $40 for 4 hours, and $70 for 24 hours.
Research on how to tow correctly though, as if done without the right knowledge it can be dangerous.

I usually grab them from any BP servo, they have 'U-HAUL' trailers.

Bit dearer than above, I think they're about $23 bucks an hour, min 3 hour rental.

You need a vehicle capable of towing an unbraked weight of 2500kg, so a 4wd is a must. The trailers weight 800kg on their own.

Buy a $2 piece of wood from bunnings (nice and long) and say you need their courtesy 2 hour trailer hire to get it home.

$2 for 2hrs ain't bad

These are the ones I've used in the past when towing one of princess' downed vehicles (first FTO twice, swift once and NX to my place). You really do need to know how to tow (or have someone who does) as having a car trailer like this is quite difficult. The axle width is wider than most 4wd's (even cruisers and patrols) and can be difficult to stick to the same lane at times. Dragging one through the suburbs (read Coogee) is "interesting" to say the least.

Like Bennoz said, you need something that'll COMFORTABLY tow about 2.5T braked. The rental trailers usually have a mechanical braking setup and can be a little unnerving at first, but once you get used to the feeling of them they're fine.

I'm also looking into the price of towing at the moment.

not sure if NRMA offers something similar
but what we used to do if we are buying a piece of sh*t

- get someone with RACQ Ultracare (covers the driver for any car)
- call RACQ, "broken down"
- get free tow home

I did 6years at bunnings - it has its perks.

I was told car trailers are about 400kg.
I've towed a car with a VT Berlina and a Ford Falcon, not sure what it was but it was a 98 model 4L.
Towed a total of 600km without issues.

To be honest I was expecting that about 1,500kg braked was enough to tow small car?

One of my customers had one (i work for minimovers) and me and another guy lifted itover a fence. It wasn't light by no means, but it wasn't 400kg lol

Are you talking about a car trailer or just some small trailer?

Actually I was saying 400kg in response to Bennoz saying they are 800kg which seems too much

Well either I turned into hulk or it was a trailer for 2 motorbikes lol

I'm towing I about 50km but my ony issue is 20 of those are uphill lol.

My options at the moment are looking like getting a trailer and using a v8 land rover to tow it or just paying a tow truck to take care of everything... Which seems like the easier/safer option.

Those two things should not be in the same post

Just get the tow-truck and be done with it. By the time you've paid fuel and rented the trailer it'll have taken about twice the time and hassle as having a towie get it for you.
