i have my keys stuck on the fto. its stuck on ACC and just wont turn to OFF. i had it checked out with a locksmith and he told me to replace the whole thing. which will cost me around $300
so i am thinking about replacing the whole set, wheels and boss kit ($400). but i am unsure whether the boss kit includes the part for the keys. help

thanks

Check this thread out right here:

The boss kit is only used for fitting aftermarket steering wheels to the existing steering column. So, no it wouldn't include the part for the keys.

Dang!!! I had this happen to me about a month after I got my fto. Apparently its a common problem with fto's so dont worry. I took mine to a locksmith and had it taken out for about $140 and havent had a problem since.
Shame you're not in Sydney... mine was fixed in a couple of hours and at quite a reasonable price...

It's actually a feature not a problem.
If you read the thread which D-Train provided a link to you will see this is a deliberate feature which Mitsubishi added to all the tiptronic models. If you had known of this, you could have saved yourself $140

oh ic...
the locksmiths came yesterday and apparently he broke off this little tiny piece of metal that was in the ignition. its the size of 1/3 of rice. does that effect anything?

Actually Ruchi it is a common problem one being that the cable from the gear shift to the ignition unit can become dislodged (spelling?) easily and as in my case there is a small peice of metal on the cable inside the ignition which can brake and cause the key to get stuck.
I do relise you are talking about the safety feature built into the Tip models to stop you from removing the key unless the car is in park...
Just be aware that the two problems stated above can cause the same thing to happen as the safety feature ie. the key to become stuck and with the broken metal one it will cost to have replaced so Trish probably didn't have a choice...

thank god its fixed...
my mechanic just pushed the keys back and it came out. saved me $240 stripped and plus parts.
apparently there was this black rubber that came out of place and was blocking the key from turning off. i was going to open and just push it back in but its fixed before i had the chance, thanks guys for the tips

for those that are interested. it has no effect on the lock if you remove the pin that hold the key in. It just means the car doesn't have to be in park to take key out.
I have ignition barrel from tip fitted to my manual, with the cable and pin removed. it works fine.

Akumi if yours is intermitant then you may have the same problem as I do... My key gets stuck only sometimes and as stated above my problem is caused by a small bit of metal which broke off the end of the cable going into the ignition unit... Try opening your ignition case (not hard) and check you dont have anything broken in there...
Hope that helps

Guys!!! I think i've finally found out why the keys get stuck in the ignition!!! Sometimes when we put it in P, it's not really in P, it still thinks it's D, just push it higher and i can actually feel something unlocking and then i can pull out the keys! does that makes sense?

Is this problem only with tiptronics has anyone with a manual had these problems ?

It's actually a feature of the tiptronics (i.e. it is a deliberate design / safety feature) to ensure your car is properly in park before exiting the car.

Once again guys, Ruchi is right, this IS a feature, just that when our cars get older this will happen. It doesn't really need fixing. maybe a bit of WD40 will do the job.
Now u see what happend is when u put in Park, u need to press the button and push all the way to P right? But sometimes the button isn't released fully. so the car thinks u're not in P yet, just make sure u hear a click sound, then u will 100% get the key out, if u still don't understand, i'll be there at the AUG 22nd mini meet and show it with my car and everything will be clear.
