For this new project of mine, I have a choice between a Black GR and a Silver GPX.. I'm sick of silver and black looks awesome.. sooo...

I have a MIVEC 6A12 to go into the shell that I get. Question is how difficult is it to change over the ECU/Loom from a GR setup to a MIVEC setup?

Did a quick search but couldn't really find anything substantial on the topic.. Has anyone done a "Mivec conversion"?

Far out you make things hard for yourself

youll need a mivec ECU to start with. Then im not exactly sure what extra wires/plugs are run. Youll need to convert to MAP sensor at the very least. Then im sure theres some kind of upgrades needed - possibly fuel pump? (are the GR ones rated lower?) Probably a loom/ecu/engine swap id say

Parts are no issue at all, the only concern for me is how difficult/how long it will take to do it.

Wont be too hard if your already ripping out the engine as it is.
Engine loom doesnt take long to replace as its already almost all removed, and the ECU is 2 bolts and it comes right out. your maybe looking at an extra 30min-hour on top of what your already doing

So does the MIVEC loom slot straight in to replace the Non without any mucking around at all? i.e. is it simply a case of connecting everything up?

What do you mean? You will have a mivec engine, so with a mivec loom, everything will be handy dandy and plug in as it would with any other mivec fto. The Ecu is the same as well. It doesnt require anything special.

In other words, if you get a mivec loom and ecu - its all plug and play

Yep, been done, just grab a mivec front loom & ecu. Last person to do it was Dras not all that long ago.

Sweet, thanks Ben. Will grab them from dstocks when the plan goes through and go from there

I undertook the conversion at the beginning of the year and as has been stated, if you have the engine bay loom (the interior loom is the same), ECU, an engine with the MAP sensor on it, and the intake pipe & box you will be right.

Just keep in mind that to get the loom through the firewall is a prick of a job and requires removing AC components (blower + evaporator core IIRC) from under the dash.

I might be embarking on this journey in my Black GR soon as the missus may or may now have blown the head gasket

Although, sadly, supposedly the bloke has just spent plenty of cash fixing his aircon/climate control

Totally agree with Dras, it is a complete prick of a job, I'm just glad I never had to put mine back in again

Ah. Well, at least I wont have a time frame for doing it really, so I wont be in too much of a rush

Was easy removing the loom from the wreck i recently stripped.
just had to cut open the firewall lol
