Blue Slip for Engine Swap

Is it needed? Or do I just put down the new engine number on the rego papers and/or get it engineered/etc?
NSW if it makes a difference.

Welcome to the f**king old FTO Australia forums!!

So will they perform a full blue slip check on it or just check the engine number?aza013 wrote:You need to go to a blue slip place and get them to grab the engine number and fill out their paper work. Then take it to the RMS ( RTA ) .
So I dont even have to tell the RTA that I did an engine swap?rock_it wrote:Actually in NSW they don't care anymore.
My Hilux has a 4Y engine in it. Rego papers still have it with the 3Y..
Asked when I did a rego check, and was told didn't matter as it was relatively the same and no-one verifies engine numbers at point of rego..
I think it only becomes an issue if the vehicle is stolen and has been modified, or if you're swapping out an engine that wasn't a factory option for that chassis (i.e. bennoz's 6A13tt). Seeing as you're sticking with the mivec-6A12, it shouldn't be a problem. Most people don't know what engine should be in it anyway, so wouldn't think to checkDaniel2019 wrote:So I dont even have to tell the RTA that I did an engine swap?rock_it wrote:Actually in NSW they don't care anymore.

I wouldn't..Daniel2019 wrote:So I dont even have to tell the RTA that I did an engine swap?rock_it wrote:Actually in NSW they don't care anymore.

I see. Id rather have it done properly on the RTA database and whatnot.. which would mean no blueslip, but notifying the RTA via taking it to a licensed garage to get it checked, correct?PHIL069 wrote:At work we had to change an engine over (relpaced with a new one), no engine number was changed on rego papers (oversight). There was no problems until the vehicle went to auction for sale and the new owner tried to get a REVS check, then reported the incorrect engine number to the RTA. Work was contacted by the RTA as they assumed it was a stolen engine, proof of purchase paper work was then produced and the rego papers were changed.
So it doesn't matter until it matters.
I would assume that would be correct, go to RTA site and do some investigating.Daniel2019 wrote:I see.
