Idle Issue.

Hi Guys,

I was changing over my headlight the other day and decided to pull the stepper motor off and have a look and I had a flucuating rev problem.

I pulled it off and had a look (it wasn't dirty so I didn't bother cleaning it) and when I put it back in and turned the car on it sat at nearly 1700 when cold, which is way off. I didn't touch the idle adjustment screw or disconnect the battery so I'm not sure what I've done.

My gearbox is also changing gears at different speeds now (much higher than before) and it won't engage 5th until i lift my foot off the gas completely over 65kmh.

Did you take the stepper off while the car was running or turn it on without the stepper in?
My suggestion is to reset the ECU. Sounds like your car just needs to learn how to do things again.

Is the stepper plugged back in properly?
Is the intake pipe seated correctly on the throttle body?
Did you break, pull off or bump off any vacuum hoses?

No the car was never turned on while the stepper was off. I'll try disconnecting it tomorrow and see if it changes anything.

If it doesn't work out tomorrow feel free to drive over and test the stepper motor off my car.

Also note, that cleaner the stepper properly requires it to be dis-assembled and to clean the plunger inside it from gunk - which in turn causes it to not open and close properly, causing this problem.
If it was fine before however i doubt it would suddenly cause this problem. If your'e positive all vacuum lines are connected tightly etc then id say reset and go from there

Did you make sure the o ring was still there when putting the stepper back in?
