Stepper motor/idle problems

Thanks to all the posts~I was able to have a good idea on how to fix my problem. Being a new owner (about 1 week) it's a learning curve.

Symptoms
1. Turn key...ticking of stepper motor heard (all good)
2. Start engine~idle about 1100 rpm on cold start
3. Engine quickly settles to 800rpm (still cold, not yet warmed up))
4. Get down the road to first stop light..revs drop to 200~300rpm and stall
5. A few days later I do a ECU reset but removing battery positive terminal for 15 minutes.
6. No change to previous condition.

Next morning~determined to sort it out (impatient  )
1. Early morning run~same symptoms
2. Get home and leave engine running (idling smoothly about 300~400 rpm)
3. Locate idle screw~ find to my amazement that it is totally screwed in
4. Now I think...idle has been set when cold to 800rpm...cold rpm should be around 2000rpm
5. Engine still running and warm 90 degrees approx
6. Set idle to 800rpm (using the screw on top of the throttle body)... Mine didn't have a cap over it.
7. Watch while radiator fan kicks in~ all good ~rpm adjusts about 800rpm
8. Turn on air conditioner on high ~ all good ~rpm adjusts about 800rpm

Conclusion~ trial again from cold later before jumping to a final conclusion
I guess the next few days will tell if the stepper motor is working properly or if there is more work to be done :D

The pictures of the throttle body (in another post) with arrows and letters marking the idle screw, stepper motor, TPS etc were most helpful ....thanks

Well...the mechanic is changing my timing belt and putting in a new clutch so he is going to have a look at the stepper motor and clean and set it, the idle and TPS along with general check and oil change.
Got a long trip to Queensland soon, need it to be in good shape :-)
Eurotech is doing the work, so ill recommend them if all is good.
Ps. Work is commencing tomorrow...stall problem not 100% rectified yet...I'm guessing stepper motor and maybe TPS calibration not quite right....anyway in mechanics hands now

Unfortunately I am on the other side of the country, I been thru 2 steppers but was never able to adjust my idle since previous owner destroyed the screw.

But lemme what was the cause of it once you find out.

Am yet to ever see one in real life.

Go get a 65mm 3rd gen Magna unit from a wrecker. They're $40 bucks at Pick & Payless.
