Ok I have been using Castrol RX Super in all my cars for the last 10 years. I know its a Diesel oil but it was recommended to me by engine reconditioners years ago and I have never had a problem. I was told that the high detergent content of the oil meant the engine would stay cleaner for longer. The FTO is currently running Mobil 1.
Im after opinions from members here on what they think and if it be OK in the FTO

No buddy, fully or semi synthetic non diesel engine oil. Is what you need.
The weight is up to you but I wouldn't go any thicker than 15w.
I'd go for a 10w semi syn oil.

Not a fan of using diesel oil all the time, yeah the detergents in it clean out the gunk, but they also clean out things you need, like gaskets, seals & sealants.
Oh & 'Lol'

As long as it meets all the requirements for your engine then I can't see a problem with using it. Diesel's are traditionally dirty motors, I change the oil every 7,500km in mine and it's blacker than sooty's ass at midnight. I've heard of mechanics recommending it to be used once every so often (i.e. every 50,000km) to clean out the engine, but never full time.
Edit: Didn't know about it eating away the seals and rubbers. Could be a nice fun engine with leaks everywhere. At least you'll know it's got a constant flow of good oil to it

Ive been running it in both 2004 4 and 6cyl Camry Sportivo's
Mazda E1800 and 99 Excel
as well as previous 94 camry and 98 Falcon
Never had any oil leaks with any of them
In fact never had any internal engine problems at all.

The owners now probably do
Maybe you should go ask other mechanics opinion rather than just the one.

Oil manufacturers don't make different grade and purpose oils for sh*ts and giggles.
There is a reason there's car oils, and a reason there are oils for diesels.
Why complicate the matter, surely you can't be saving money from this adventure?
If it's a cost thing, then Castrol GTX2 can be had for very little these days, fill the car up with that whale sperm and job done.

We're talking about engines, not what you use for personal lube.
