Recommended battery size?

Hi guys,
I'm about to buy a new battery tonight and was wondering how much amps do I need?

Current one is 400 amps. I only have a basic sound system so the power requirements aren't high,

Cheers

Haha I got 550cca but just fits on the tray, intake pipe is squeezed in there, you could go 300-500

I've got a 620cca and she fits perfectly. But it is overkill for what we need

I ran my car off one of these for a few years, you don't need a big one.

Fair enough so it looks like 300-500 should do the job,
Cheers

Out of curiosity do the yellow and red top batteries need to be in a box if converted to the boot or can they just be strapped down

They're fully sealed so they don't need a box.

If the battery is a sealed, maintenance free type then I don't believe it has to be in a vented box.

And besides, what's wrong with 870CCA? :troll:

I have a Optima D34 yellow top in mine, along with a UAS intake pipe. It's a tight squeeze. Couldn't get the battery tie down on, so had to improvise.

Sealed battery will still discharge flammable gas upon charging from alternator.

"Sealed" only mean maintenance free as in prevent water loss.

The optima AGM batteries will only vent if severley overcharged. And there is no way a alternator can overcharge it.

AGM batteries also don't have water in them.

So Optima yellow and red tops are completely safe to keep in the boot with no box.

2nd that  .
I run the red top and have done now for the past two years. It's still going strong.
Oh and it's in the boot with no box and has the tick of approval from a number of inspectors.

Considering the stock battery is only a 4inch (possibly a 5 actually?) battery compared to the standard 7inch today (as well as almost half the CCA of what most people have) almost anything would be fine as long as its rated to turn over a v6.
Youd get away with a 300 i reckon

Went out and got a 330amp one tonight, along with some new terminals. Will connect it up tomorrow which should fix the issue :)

One point though - how good is your tie down? Shiny new black ones cost less than 10 bucks  :)
