I'm noticing that at speeds above 60, closer to like 70-100, when I applying the brake I get a sort of shuddering vibration feedback through partly the pedal, but a lot through the steering wheel. Steering when the brake is not depressed seems fine and smooth, and the actual braking doesn't seem noticeably less.

Are the pads on their way out, or something else? I recall bumping a bit of roadkill on the way back from Canberra in Feb, and a couple rough potholes, but I wouldn't think it would make a difference to the brakes.

You probably just need to get your discs machined.

Fairly cheap process.

Normally $15 a disc.

Just involves a lathe.

I wondered if it might be something to do with them, but I had NFI about this stuff.

Sounds like my old brakes.. had warped rotors and did the same thing as yours. If they havent been machined then get them machined, if not, replace

If the guy says they are undersized, means that they have been machined before or are very very old.

He will probably recommend replacement.

I dunno if you also get them machined, you might as well get some new pads as well.

RDA rotors are $50 a piece approx.

I know the rear pads need replacing semi-soon. If the rotors can't be machined then I might save up and do it all at once..

I didnt get them machined, I (fraz) replaced them with a different set that had recently been machined.

Ahh, righteo.

So the answer to your question of "will machining them fix it" is yes. Only reason I didn't get mine machined is because they'd been done before and were too thin.

But yeah, if you can get them machined it should fix the problem, if not just replace them.

If youve managed to warp them (overheating), you are better off trying to get a set of slotted rotors so it is less likely to occur again.

Is that because the machining is not likely to resolve all of the warping?

I've seen a bit of talk about the RDA rotors? There's some clearance sets on Camskill when I was browsing there, but not sure if it's worth shipping them.

No, rather if you've managed to overheat the rotors somehow then its probably going to happen again at some stage, and getting slotted rotors will prevent this.

In the long term its a wise choice and a sort of insurance if it happens again.

Does it matter that it's larger (I think) than the stock? I'm guessing the $54.45 is for the regular and the upgraded types are more?

Yes it will matter if the rotor is larger than stock.
Im sure brakes direct will have the correct rotor. Just find the RDA number and punch it into brakes direct - they will spit out a cross referenced part and away you go.

On a similar note, i recently had to change the rear rotors/pads on the mrs car and brakes direct were not only 60-70 cheaper than supercheap and 40 cheaper than bursons, but were the same price as anything on eBay, and were in stock/able to be picked up right away without waiting/paying for postage. Definitely recommended.

Someone had posted the part no. as RDA7621, which came up with nothing, but I removed the 7 and got the second link.

Those rear rotors arent FTO
They are 267mm x 22mm
FTO is 260mm x 10mm

The problem with brakes direct is they dont state anything other than a part number

They do on some things, but not others it seems.

I can't even see where you found the 267x22 (unless you looked it up somewhere else)

punched in the RDA number and it comes up as a nissan rotor, originally with 6 stud pattern
