[FIXED] Reverse Lights

OK, I havent got reverse Lights. Have swapped out bubs (changed whole taillight on one side), changed reverse switch (if its the front sensor on the top of the manual box) and changed fuse 3 (see link below - think its the right one)

http://www.completefto.com.au/CompleteFTO.asp?aid=447

What else could it be and how best to diagnose where the issue is.

Oh and I dont get the reverse beep either.

Please dont tell me that the internals of the gearbox that engage the switch can break.

Thanks in advance

Is the replacement switch in working order? You should be able to test it with a multimeter.

How do I test it. I did just try that with the buzzer on the multimeter on the original switch and get nothing when ball on end of switch is pressed in or not pressed in

If need to replace it, is there an aftermarket one or do I have to go genuine and if genuine only, is it shared with a Lancer or anything.

[edit]Actually looking at caps, it may be shared with lots of things[/edit]

Yeah, just test with the meter on continuity. (Buzzes when both probes touch together)

Put each probe on the terminals and push the ball in. Should buzz when pushed in.

I believe ZFL45H1 used the switch off a Hyundai as it was the exact same.

Yeah, I get nothing when I do that (at least I do on the switch I swapped out)

You could also try cleaning the switch. My reverse lights didn't work when I got my car. I took the switch out and soaked the ball end in parts cleaner. Started working after that.

Sounds like the old switch has had it
As for the reverse beep.
correct me if I'm wrong. But I think that's only for the auto

Part number is MD730979. In this case if this is the issue, then both reverse switches I have are buggered (as ive swapped and still have issue). I wonder what the chances of that are.....

Has it been manual converted?

I haven't had reverse lights for over a year now.. haha
So if you find a good cheap place for a new switch, post it up :) (thinkin' it's the switch on mine too)
Vectose and I tried cleaning mine when we did the tappets so no luck :(
I might also look at swapping out the fuse too just in case

Hopefully that solves it.

Not much to this circuit, but always fun finding the exact fault.

Well, what can be the culprit:

Fuses: replaced just in case.
Bulbs: replaced just in Case.
Reverse switch: Replaced but didnt fix.

Im not getting continuity between the terminals on the old switch when the ball is pressed in, so im just going off the fact that there should be continuity.

Apart from that, what does that leave?

Given no relay is involved in this circuit... from memory
All that leaves is simple wiring, so whether there is no power getting to the switch, or from the switch to the lights.

If the circuit is open on the switch, then it's next to an assurance, but I've been burned before.

Fixed the bastard. Was the switch. Really easy to diagnose for those of you having this issue:

1. Open Bonnet and Remove Reverse Switch Plug.
2. Bridge the 2 terminalsin the plugwith a wire
3. Turn to Accessories
4. Put Car in reverse

If the reverse lights come on, the problem is your switch. If not, then that isnt your problem. Switch is worth $56 from Mitsubishi Australia and takes about 5 mins to fit.

Good to hear.

But Step 4 is not necessary.
