Went to move my car this morning and whaddya know, the c*nt won't start... Took the battery out and charged it and the car started. Took it for a drive, turned the engine off and the c*nt won't start again Also when I turned on the headlights or foggies there was a dip in the rpm.

Also if I remember reading correctly in posts ages ago, wasn't there a place that sold uprated gpx alternators new? Can't remember :S

Sure your battery simply hasn't dropped a cell?

You couldn't have charged it that long for it to sustain.

Top the battery up again, put a multimeter to the terminals, if you have more than 12V, it's not your alternator.

Hmm... okay then, but it is a brand new battery I bought it a month ago :/

It's a Century one, bought from supercheap :L So in saying this if the alternator were to be f*cked mivec would not activate at all right? Since the 2 of the 4 pins activate it. When I drove it Mivec did activate or is that a stupid test?

Ummm.

I know that MIVEC won't activate if the alternator is rooted.

I see... It's just that I don't have access to a multimeter and want to test this before I get something I don't need...

Turn engine over, remove battery cables if car continues running then alternator is fine? If car stalls alternator is stuffed?

Ummmm, yeah, that works too.

Haven't done that in an age.
Just remove the negative terminal.

Done that, alternator is fine... Took battery to supercheap tested as a good battery at 13.3V Went for a short drive around, all normal functions no dip in rpm when turning on headlights etc turned car on and off multiple times all good? Temperamental b*tch... Battery must not have been sustained the first time around or something.

Maybe your battery terminals were dirty.
Having removed them a few times has removed the oxide layer.

Just wire brush the terminal points.
I'd say that's most likely your issue.

Happened to me with a bad negative grounding terminal. The headlights would sometimes dip and the volt meter fluctuated a lot when indicating etc. Make sure the terminals are clean and the battery has a good ground.

Can be caused by slightly loose terminals too, happened to me.
