17 or 18? Light weight?

So i'm narrowing down my choice on rims... but I've got a few things, I still want to make up my mind on... and you guys can help
Basically, what I'm tossing up between, is 17's too small? or do 18's really look that much better?
and what are the weigt of stockies? Just the rims alone? Anyone know? because, I saw some nice 17's, and they were weighed in at 5.5kg's each, which to me, sounds VERY VERY light.. and then i saw some rims advertised as light weight, which tipped in at "about" 8kg's...
Do 18's make the ride much worse? do 17's look that bad?
Idea's sugeestions?? Let em flow... Let's get some discussion going, no one seems to be posting anything anymore.

my advice would be to come to the next event as there you'll see 16", 17", 18" and maybe even higher.

I think it depends where you wanna head with your ride, if you want "show factor" you may as well get the 18", if you want performance wise, and to take it to a track one day, then 17", which look very nice when your car is lowered mind you.
Sorry can't help with the weight, but that's just my 2 cents

I'm scared, if I drop it, the scraping my start...
I did see some rims advertised, 17", and I love the design, in shadow chrome, and enquired about the weight, and he said, they were 5.5kg each.. Which sounds ridiclously lite to me, espically, because they weren't even advertised as lite weight...
I'll come to the meet to see them in person I guess... I think 18's will look real nice, but there is a trade-off, in performance and the smoothness of the ride.... I hope 17's look good...

Hmmm i never seen any 17" chrome wheels weight less then 6kg before, so you better ask him to proof it (e.g weight the wheels infront of you)

I used to have 17" wheels on my car with 255 Tyres at the rear, and they used to scrape like hell. They were eating the crap out of my tyres, even with the guards rolled. I then changed the Rims to 18" with a lower profile tyre, and even lowered it too. Since then I have never scraped the guards. The only thing I scrape is the front of the body kit!!
The size of your wheels is all based on personal opinion and what tickles your fancy! Personally Id rather 18" wheels because I think they look better.

Well they're from tempe tyres...
These are rims alone, not with rubber...
The "ultra light magnesium" 17" shadow chromes are according to him 5.5...
It does sound VERY sus though, because I could've sworn, I saw the exact same rims on eBay, and when I asked him, he said 8kg's....
Since I'm in Melbourne, I have no way, of checking it, but I was looking at the 17" spider rims...
However, after taking a close look at my baby today... The front looks sooo empty... She's like begging for 18's.

The only way they could be 5.5kgs, is if they are true magnesium wheels. Magnesium wheels cost in-excess of $1000 per rim. I'm pretty sure that Tempe Tyres don't offer race spec magnesium wheels
I dont think anyone would spend that much money just on rims.....unless they have a lot of money

I don't have lots of money, but the wheels i've got without tyres are $980 each. And it wasn't came with the car.

$1 000 is for 15 inch magnesium rims.......while the 17's and 18's are around $1 500- $2 000.
$1 000 for 17's or 18's is not too bad but spending 8 000 grand for rims when the only use they will have is daily driving and occasional track use, it's pretty crazy
Ps Magnesium wheels aren't chrome.

I don't think is call crazy, its more like stupid, cause my friend had a 19" magnesium rims on his R34 GTR

& its just sitting in the garage except for sunday. And yes its definitely magnesium & not chrome.

When i had 17's they always seemed smaller than what I expected 17's to look like. (that was on a silvia s13)
Now I have 18's on my fto, they always look huge to me..i cant get over it, they just look BIG.

i bought my 18's from tempe and would recommend them for sure ! Although i bought them with 40/225/18 tyres....
I have alittle bit of scrappage but only at full lock to over come this i would recommend getting 215 instead of the 225.

I have the same size wheel as Indyfto and mine never scrape..

So according to everyones comments from this thread, 225/35/18 wheels are the best ones to go for, if you dont want scrapage..

Yeah I reckon certain wheels on S13 look small though, a mates 18's look like 17's while a few others I know with 17's look bigger, and anohter guy with curvy 18's look suitably big. It's all taste really I reckon.
And I think, hey if your into great things and can afford magnesium wheel great, go for it, all the best to drool over

How much of a difference, do you think we're talking about in power with regards to the weight difference between the stock 16", to something like ~9kg 18" (without tyres) so add in an estimated weight on the tyres too??
Have any of you with 18's lowered your car?
