Paying a visit to local wreckers.

Hey guys,

I'm really considering going to a local wreckers who have an fto in stock. In the images, it looks like it's had some exhaust work done. Now I am pretty set on getting some RPW extractors but am wondering - are they enough to get some kind of power gain with stock everything else except for a muffler that was installed on my car by previous owner?

It's my understanding that a catalytic converter would also help increase performance again, however I am not sure with how much I can get away with as I am a P Plater.

It would also help if I knew the whole exhaust system from start to finish more thoroughly. You need to excuse me for my lack of knowledge regarding this. I'll use the easy excuse that I am a female.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

what the?
Extractors are legal for the 11100000000000002229118171717 time
And YES they are worth it. Power increase - yes !
Are u sure u only have a muffler and not a bigger exhaust from the cat back?
Can get hi flow cat converter, but theyre nothing special.

How much of a job is it to install extractors at home?

Well it's basically just unbolt the ones that are on there and then bolt the new ones on.
Just abit fiddly. Done a coolant flush lately? Removing the radiatator makes getting the front extractor on really easy. And and it's pisseasy to remove the radiator and change the coolant.

I think I read on another thread that the front one was easy and the rear one was difficult. Did you experience that?

Never done a coolant flush before. Was thinking of getting a better radiator also.

I'll need to get new exhaust gaskets too, right?

I think I took enough photos when I was installing mine to write up a DIY if you like?

Jack the car from the front, disconnect the y pipe connecting the two headers from underneath, take the radiator off, open 6 bolts for the front header, get underneath it, remove 6 bolts for the rear header, disconnect the y pipe connecting to the cat converter, carefully unplug the o2 sensor wire, install the two headers first, then connect the y pipe, then connect y pipe to new cat box, connect the exhaust pipe to the other end of the cat box, plug the sensor wire back on, put the radiator back on, remember to plug radiator fans back in.

You can reuse the gaskets for the headers, as they are metal gaskets. Rpw sends new gaskets with the extractors afaik.

RPW provide the gaskets for the extractor to y pipe joints. You can reuse the extractor to head gaskets.l and you need to buy a new y pipe to cat gasket.

You don't need to take your radiator out...

Nope. But I had to take my radiator fan out.

It's a 2 min job to get the radiator out...makes the front headers easy to take out. I had to take my radiator out to get the headers out and in.
It is also a good time to check if you are due for a coolant flush. :)
