Carbon Bonnet

Probably going back about 6 months now I bought a carbon 'EVO style' (probably not the correct name) bonnet from Vanadinite via Sahin.

Love the bonnet and how crazy light it is but one of the threads which you bolt the bonnet hinges into to has broken/is missing. I'm assuming it was like this before I bought it as I haven't fitted the bonnet onto the car just yet.

Would a panel shop be able to fix this? Is it possible to fix myself?

Hmmmm. You could fibreglass around a nut and then fibreglass that into the bonnet. A bit fiddly, but do-able. Youll need to make sure that the distance between the bolt holes a match those in the hinge.

Take it to a fibreglass shop or boat builder or surfboard builder or boat repairer/marina etc.
You live in Newcastle so there should be plent of options.

Cheers for the input guys!

Do you think it would be an expensive repair for a shop to fix it?

I did that! Hahaha
I tightened the bolt too tight and it ripped it clean out
It was just a nut fiberglassed in there... Should be an easy fix!

Slightly more expensive then I initially thought it would be but the parents are paying for part of it as a late (3 months ago) birthday/christmas present.

The hole where the thread initially was, has cracked and continued up the inside of the bonnet. There is evidence to suggest some of the fibreglass structural support for the bonnet has been repaired at some stage.

Basically they will:
-Fix the mount and reinforce the others
-Tidy up the edges from damage during storage
-Polish over the bonnet to remove some medium depth scratches
-Fit and align on the car

Shop owner is a family friend and will look after me in the future when it comes to painting Dwayne's kit.

Might be good to give his details to Wax anima ... Get the scratch buffed out of his bonnet.. And get the guy to check to make sure it is in good standing...
