Hi all, my FTO has started having trouble starting. On cold mornings it just starts then stalls straight away. It also fluctuates revs between like 200 and 800. Any ideas what could be the cause?

Most likely stepper motor, easy to replace.

If its not the stepper, could also be TPS.

im having the same problem, but my fto wont crank at all, it just makes a click noise. battery is sitting at a bit above 12v
where abouts is the throttle body to locate the stepper motor?
and is a start motor the same as a stepper motor?
and would this fit the fto?

Starter motor solenoid is stuck ^

Replace or repair. Better to replace.

That wouldn't be the stepper motor droz.

The battery might be dead even though it says it's at 12V, it might not be putting out enough amps to start the car.
Have you tried jump starting the car?

And no, a stepper motor is not the same as a starter motor

tried jump stating it and it didnt work, however it charged my battery because before the lights were so dim and windows werent coming down, so after a while all electricals were working then tried jump starting again and it didnt work, so did the rolling start and it worked, drove around for 20 mins and turned engine off and tried starting it and same problem it goes silent with a faint click.

so are starter motors hard to replace? and how much do they cost and where do i get them? thanks

It's the starter motor..
Not hard to replace at all, two 14mm bolts.
Second hand $100 odd, $200+ for new ones I think.

Try swapping your battery with one that you know works before you think about the starter motor
