FTO AUSTRALIA

Hello,

I have moved to the UK and after 2 years of not needing a second car, the FTO bug has hit me again.
I used to live in SA and was searching for my first FTO. Was looking for a GPX silver, black or Blue in good condition with only tasteful mods.

I realize there is an FTO UK owners club, but a) I've had good advice from you lot before and b) I currently can't post things on their site.

I bring to you this specimen;

I would appreciate your review and anything glaringly wrong with any pics or description.
I will of course take into consideration the check list when going to see any FTO (very thorough )

Also does anyone know anyone in the FTO uk owners club?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they stop producing FTO's In the year 2000 with only around 100 being made? So if this is the case this model can't be a 2001.


However it does look relatively clean! Not much has been done to it though just looks like another average FTO!

Car was imported 2001, so based on their description it must be a 2000 model. However I should get the chassis number and double check, good point.

Average FTO is fine with me so that I can improve it if I want but to begin with I want it to work and look nice.
Concerned about the low mileage for a 14 year old car but then its not crazy low, so could be genuine.

Yep it checks out as a 2000 GPX. The car itself looks pretty clean, I'd be a bit worried about the engine bay though. It's filthy and I'm wondering how well the engine is maintained in that case. Everything else seems fine, so I'd say it's worth an inspection at least.

Yep, worst part is the engine bay. Everything else looks pretty good. Look for excessive wear on seats and steering wheel as an indication of more mileage than displayed.

I'd say that was an 'honest' engine bay, and given it's a 2000 model with 2001 UK compliance, dare I speculate the mileage can't be that far off.

Most people don't detail an engine.

Looks like a winner to me, but still play it smart.

This listing finished a few days ago, the car did not sell.
It is a Nakaya Tune but its a trip

It may be worth the hassle of contacting her through Ebay because this car looks in good nick and it has been garaged ( you can tell by looking at the pic of the engine bay)

It also looks like the genuine thing , having the "Nakaya lip" on the front bumper
If it it real, its a bloody rare car mate only 122 built.

I was kinda saving this one for myself, but you seem to be having a slight problem finding a decent car

This car is worth following up, it is worth getting in touch with her to see if she still has the car, and coming to a "deal".

The manual silver GPX owner has promised first refusal to someone else Just have to wait and hope, then go see it.

As fantastic as the GPvR is, rare and well kept + great colour etc, I have reservations on the trip gearbox. I have a feeling that changing it from auto to manual is not advised.
However, I am getting old and maybe the trip is perfect (plus the wife can't drive manual). 1998 facelift model would have the 5 sp trip? And thrill wise am I losing much compared to the manual? I was attracted to the silly creature comforts, climate control etc from a GPX compared to GP.
I don't decide things easily, but once decision is made I know I've thought enough about it.

I have followed up about the GPvR and I'll see where there leads. I want to point out that if I get that car I will appreciate it for everything that makes it more awesome than a standard GPX ( Noddy your passing this information was not in vain).

Nothing wrong with changing to a manual from auto, heaps of people have done it. Manual is better. Moar power, better fuel economy, moar fun and you get moar control over the car. Forget the auto box. The 5 speed is very hard to find if something goes wrong, and because they are the same as the 4 speed box in size (they just crammed another gear in) they are arguably more unreliable from what I've seen. As for the 4 speed auto, has sh*t gear ratios and is just meh. Slushboxes are rubbish. I can barely even drive auto cars anymore.

Go the manual!
