Hello ladies and gents,
Have been away from the ftoau community for more than several years now. Thought it was about time to check in and see how the community has been going. I'm sure there will be more new faces here than old.
Owned an 95 Fto gpx for two years, previously owned by an ancient FTOAU member 'akuma'. My Fto was almost perfection to me, despite the ride being unbearably rough at times (coilovers) it never gave me a hiccup and I definitely didn't baby it with the revs.
Was a brilliant car and always felt a bit of regret having to sell her but was left with little choice due to dictating forces in life. I now have a 5 y.o daughter and fiance, families are expensive but a very worthwhile investment.
Always hoped to look into another Fto someday, was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the quality/quantity of Ftos in the current market. I'd imagine that its becoming harder to find one with genuinely low kms without importing, most would be thrashed or modified to death. Is this still the case?
Cheers

Welcome back,
Mine is for sale. Has had mivec swap + engine and gearbox rebuild + heaps of extras.
Needs respray and roof rust done, that's about it.

Welcome back mate...
Sadly I have to say, that quality FTO's are not so common ... With the price drop over the years, it has been a popular car for a lot of younger people, that don't really believe in maintenance. And generally don't look after them. A generalisation but one that I have noticed.
I have sold on Bobby, which to me (like yours) was a genuine low K import that was look after by previous owner(s) including myself.
There may be some really good examples out there, but as the cars are getting a bit longer in the tooth, my suggestion is to try and either find an older driver selling their pride and joy, or look at importing one for a little extra coin from Japan...

Yeah I haven't seen that many good FTOs around at the moment. Most of the ones that I've seen around all have roof rust problems or haven't sold in over a year... (hmm wonder why) My FTO would be classed as one that has been modded pretty heavily though I guess

Owning my fto (which was extensively modified aesthetically) made me really appreciate the car in its stock form for some strange reason. I never modified it myself, all that work was put in by the previous owner which left me wanting at the opportunity to start from scratch with performance modifications only. I always thought it was pretty spectacular in the way it looked and handled. In my mind it was bringing its level of performance up to match.
The fto market seems to be even more restrictive, like any finite resource exposed to a greater demand over time. It was always getting harder to secure one with low kms and without the inherent problems (roof rust, tappets, etc).
Good to see some of the old timers still around here and (new) members share an appreciation for it, even if after moving on in many cases.
