FTO Running Hot

Hi,

I don't know much about cars and my Dad recently bought me a Mitsubishi FTO 1995 model.

It was overheating really quickly within about 15kms. So we took it to the mechanic who checked the head gaskets and radiator, which had no problems.

The mechanic replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap housing and radiator cap.

We got it back today, and Im wondering how hot a Mitsubishi FTO is suppose to run, as we took the car for a short drive today and it went up to halfway within about 2 minutes but stayed there.

Is this normal for these kind of cars?

Thank you for any help you can give. :)
