fto gr won't start ! Checked fuses everything seems right, we've checked A few censors, everything seems right. Replaced fuel pump ( can hear it run now) still turning over but not firing? I feel like I should get an auto electrician to come out and look at it but I don't want this to cost me and arm or leg lol any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Yea, like I said on facebook, get a mate to help you out. Also check the lead sequence and make sure they are numbered correctly as firing sequence is important

Guys he drove the car perfectly fine to supercheap, changed the air filter in the car park then it didn't start again, it's not lead order. It's a sensor of some sort that's packed it in, even if it was a coil pack all three wouldn't fail at once.

There is a guide somewhere here for checking error codes...

Not sure if you have done that as yet... I have never had to do it, but apparently it is pretty easy...

Yes but they would give a code me thinks.

They would definitely give a code. 2 actually if it was both, 22 & 23.

Hate to use the age old adage, if it was working before you touched it, then it'll be something you touched.

All they did was change an air filter... Toby'd it.

don't think so.

Just tidying/summing up:

what happened:
- he drove it to super cheap, no problems
- bought an air filter, swapped the old one out there in the car park (stock filter, box pipe etc)
- won't start

what's been done:

- He's been told to check and clean a bunch of electrical stuff
- Cleaned and reseated maf plug
- swapped ifs out
- checked TPS adjustment cleaned and reseated TPS plug
- checked throttle body operation

- checked the fuses and wiring there (I was told his mechanic checked this)

- starter is fine, cranks no issues (off memory it was reconditioned 30k ago)
- battery was obviously fine (at the start)
- replaced fuel pump (couldn't hear it working, bought lancer part replaced now can hear it)

- checked spark, no spark

**so the issue is the whole no spark thing ** (as far as can tell)

The only other suggestion has been the cam and crank angle sensor. Which is probably not it, as ben said, they would give you error codes; and there isn't (or at least wasn't, I didn't see the engine warning or N lights flashing when I was there, and I think Matt checked later as well)

I'm with Ben on the whole "trace your last steps back" thing; and told him to double check: the fuse boxes, especially the 3 fuses that were closest to the airbox; and any wiring connection in that area and near the intake pipe. I assume he's check it, and didn't find anything.

Any suggestions? cookie for the right answer

Mitch

Did I miss anything there?
Can you make sure there definitely isn't an error code; read and follow the instructions on here.
Have you double checked the fuses and wiring, that I messaged you about?

And if all else fails, and you decide to take it to a mechanic; take it to somewhere like Kmart or Ultra Tune; or any of the bigger chains.. just make sure that they do free quotes.

can't believe that I just names those two places as legit recommendations.... Just to be clear, I'm not recommending using them normally.
- Kmart left a 3/4 extension bar loose in my engine bay once; and way over charged for tyres another time
- Ultra Tune regassed my air con swore black and blue there were no leaks, 3 weeks later.. no gas, also charged $400+ in labour for swapping in adjustable coilovers (i supplied parts)
