Replacing the gearbox

Just read about there being 2 different gearboxes in the manual fto's. I am going to be fully replacing mine but the actual gearboxes are hard to come by, only found the one so far that isn't trashed, does the replacement have to be the same gearbox number F5M421 or F5M422, or if im replacing it completely does it not matter? If it does is a conversion simple enough to do, or how much extra time would it take a mechanic to do?

Thanks

Pretty sure F5M422 is the only manual box, based on the guide Stu put together

Not necessarly,

you can use the mirage 1.5 gearbox and that simply works fine onto the 6a12. That is another option for you.

Only downside is that the mirage has a slightly longer gear ratio.

3.7 for the mirage vs 4.3 for the fto.

If you have more coin.... then upgrading to the 4.6-4.6 gear ratio and lsd would work wonders.

In my opinion the FTO gearbox already has way too long of gears/FD.

I use a CJ4A (1.6 MIVEC) gearbox and it really transforms the car.

Even if you get a ragged out one, it's not hard to put a bearing reco kit though it.

Conversion is easy enough. I did one over of the course of a weekend at a half arsed pace.
