Looking for a workshop competent to work with ECUError Codes

Hi All,

Most of you aware that I am having weird reving problems around 2250-2500rpm for a long time now. Again, loss of power, rev is going up and down, sounds like going to stall.

Now, After I had a look at the ECU error codes, I found TPS(13), and ATP(14, Air Intake Temperature Sensor)

I also have a warranty on the car which I purchased when I bought the car 1,5 years ago. Warranty is on for total of 3 years. I talked with them and they are going to pay to fix up these problems.

Now I talked with Northern Mitsubishi and EastSide Mitsubishi and they said they have the MUT-2 device to read the error codes but not the program to read from an FTO.

I also called SL Motorsports, however, it sound like they are not competent to work with error codes as well.

I am assuming the reving problem strongly related with sensor errors. So, I need you guys to give me idea to where can I find a competent enough workshop to work with error codes, and ultimately solve all above problems.

Thank you all

I am in Northcote, but location of the workshop is not important.

what sort of reving problems do u have around 2.5K RPM? Does it seem to be hesitating?

yep, I can call it hesitating,
well, in 3rd gear, around 2200rpm, (while still accelerating) rpm starts dropping to 2100, at this time there is a distinct power loss, car is hesitating, but not for a glance, around 2 secs, then starts to increase slowly again, till it hits the 2500rpm, then its ok.
very obvious in 3rd and 4rth gears, however, I can also feel it in 2nd gear too. I am assuming it is too fast to realise it in 1st gear.

where can I found a good mechanic guys?

Max there are lots of good mechanic around, but the problem is they 99% of them won't know how to read the FTO ecu error codes, so your only chance are maybe Mitsubishi dealers.

Dude,
I talked with Northern & Eastside Mitsu,
I even tried to tell them how to read the codes without MUT-2.
These guys' reply was "We don’t think we have competent enough staff here to fix this problem"

I better call other Mitsu dealers now.

So, how does everybody else fix their problems with error codes?
Or, Am I the only one ever had ECU error codes? 8O

i had a similar problem when i first bought my car but its easily fixed once the spark plugs and leads were changed.

I assume u have already tried to reset yr ECU.

yep, I tried the ECU reset, always get the same error codes.

Its gotto be something else then spark plugs and cables though.

I am thinking that why would TPS & ATS gives error messages if everything was OK with them. I am strongly thinking that either those sensor are not working correctly or the cables between sensors and ECU are damaged or something, maybe sockets that holds the cables are damaged.

Do you think am I making sense here?

in my opinion, you shouldnt need a mechanic that is competent with error codes... all they should need to know are the symptoms and what error codes are coming up...

so go to a mechanic and tell them the symptoms and tell them that the ecu is saying there is something wrong with the TPS and the intake temp sensor and they should be able to figure it out....

well... fingers crossed anyway :?

I think I will give another call to SL Motorsports, and explain it little further, have a test drive with the guy or something.

I was also thinking that maybe I should copy the related sections from the workshop manual, where it explains about the sensors and diagnostics on them.

I think is better if you can get Lee at SL Motorsport to test drive it with you, so he can get a much better understanding of whats happening. But i know they are pretty busy these days.

yeah, I talked with Lee, he asked to have a test drive.

Its bloody long way away from me, but I guess I just have to do it.

Guys,

Finally, I had some time yesterday to do some diagnostic tests on my car about the error codes I am getting.
- Trottle Positioning Sensor TPS (error code 14)
- Air Intake Temperature Sensor ITS (error code 13)

So, I took of the Air Intake Temperature Sensor and heated up while measuring the resistance. It started at 1.99 kohm, and as I heated went down to 0.38 kohm which shows that temperature sensor is working fine.

I am assuming this may mean that either the cabling or the ECU might be cactus.

I am especially focusing on a failed ECU or the ECU socket as the TPS and ITS cables are located next to each other on the ECU.

1)What do you guys think?
2)How can I test that cables are in working condition?
3)How can I test that ECU is in working condition?

Thanks for your help guys.

Regards

Max

How do I figure out that my ECU is still in Working order guys?

i dont think its that we dont want to help...more so that we dont know what to do... if i was you, id find an ecu that you can borrow and swap it over to see if anything changes...

other than that, i cant really suggest anything...

Thanks Chiangstar,
I am bit confused over this issue, that’s why I was begging.
So, Is there any very very very nice Victorian person on this forum to swap & test the ECU with me.
I am assuming swapping and testing should take about 1-2 hours max. Cause all I have to do is to check the ECU error codes after the swap, then we can swap back to originals again. 8)
Complementary 6pack and sandwiches will be provided. :D

Max i would love to help you mate, but my ecu is hook up with 2 other devices, so its not going to be that easy to take out.

if it was a faulty sensor the engine warning light would have lit up anyway...

your best bet would be to look at the folks @ the UK forums - they have heaps of workshops that deal with FTOs over there so some1 should be able to help you out.

honestly i think it might be the TPS itself that's causing problems - does it only occur when you slam your foot on the throttle? does it occur in auto or tip mode only?

Try to accellerate gradually (instead of burying your right foot) from the RPM range that you're having problems with.

Also check your oil level (replace it if you haven't done so in a while), check your filter to see if there's an off-chance that something might be blocking your air intake, check that the TB is working properly and most of all, check your spark plugs as well!
