Hi i was thinking about having either twin cannon mufflers or one single cannon fitted to my FTO. Is is Tip & non mivec, just wondering if doing this would see a reduction in power or excelleration ? The guys at the muffler shop checked out my current stock exhaust and they said it was very restricted & i would notice a power gainage with either single or double. Any help or advice here would be appreciated. Thanks

There are few topic on muffler/exhaust already.
In short, each brand will react differently as some restriction is good for N/A, because it need back pressure, while forced induction need to be free as possible. The only way you can find out is to do a dyno before & after.

Thanks. Yes there is so much written hear on exhausts, but noone really had their questioned answered. All the talk was on the UAS system & from what i read & hear nobody really that crash hot on the sound that is has given the car. So that was why i subbmitted question. Guess just have to put in on & find out.. =) Thanks for the reply though.

Hey,
I'm not sure which setup is supposed to be better but I am very keen on the sound of the exhaust at least so could you update us once you put it on?
I want to change my exhaust as well but what I want is so hard to get, either the HKS super dragger or the blitz realize TT.
And brand new is so expensive.
I want where the sound isn't so loude but it's loude enough...don't want any headaches...
If any one know of any good valued ones please let me know.
Thanks,
cannon muffler

a lot of FTOs ive heard sound like crap with an exhaust. Being a small engine its very important getting the right one for the car and not just a cheapo one from Autobahn.

I agree,
+X kW doesn't make up for a VW sounding exhaust. I don't care how big X is.
The trouble is ... every manafacturer you speak just tells you what you want to hear (no pun intended). So it is really hard to know until you get it done ... and then your committed.
Good luck fto469, and I look forward to your results posting.

if you go to a good exhaust shop they will let you play with different angles and mufflers to get the sound you want... might cost abit more labour but its better than being stuck with a sound you hate

Well i got the Cannon muffler fitted late this afternoon. So far so good. Havent given it a searching hit out as yet. It does have a nice much fuller sound now, very rich & deep but not overly overly loud. In sports mode i took 1st, 2nd upto abut 5000rpms & it sounded great & felt very smooth. It also gave a good sound when it was down shifting through the gears. I got all pipe work done & fully installed for $300 from Sefton mufflers. I was quoted $380 for same job at this muffler specialist at Mount Druit (sorry cant remember the companys name but they are large franchise). So far i have not noticed any reduction in power but i will add more through the week or saturday evening after abit more testing. I think if maybe a couple or a few guys go there might be able to get a discount ?
I did mention we have an FTO club to him. Regards ps the pipe comes out on a slight angle to the right & not straight out the back.

if you only replace the muffler, don't expect any marginal performance gains... however if you replace the entire exhaust system (ie: cat-back), you will get about 10kw+ increase at the wheels, depending on the piping size you opt for... but if it's just the noise you're after, changing the muffler alone will do the job.

Yeah Mikey is right. Really no performance gains, but more for tone of sound if you're only changing the muffler.
Also I would take what the muffler guy said with a grain of salt. For what the FTO is out of the factory, the exhaust system is tuned fairly well. The diameter of the cat-back piping is pretty close to 2'5" which is spot on for a 2L NA.

Any details of this guy where you got it done for $300?
And any pics and sound perhaps?
Thanks,

Hi all, firstly it is a Super Cat canon muffler & it was fitted by sefton mufflers at Sefton NSW. The guys name is David Opdam & their contact number is 02 9645 4554. I do have a pic but i dont know how to add to this posting. I have also recorded sound to my cell. Think i should be able to put on my pc then if someone tells me how to put in this forum i will add it on. I only had the muffler done not any pipe work except the extra piping they joined to original to fit across the back of car to the new muffler. Still very happy with sound & no reduction in power is noticable.

Hey fto469, just wondering is your tip coming out on an angle? Coz I was qouted a cannon tip fitted from $260 but it would be on an angle. If so how much of an angle.
Thanx

I'd be very suprised if the FTO gains 10kW Mikey, prolly on a *cough* forced induction :p but it looks like the FTO has been tuned pretty high from mitsa, having said that Toni got a huge increase from her exhaust n filter...

lol... Jun you just proved my point by using Toni's mods as an example

ahhh yes your Right guys I was very surprised to get my 10 extra KW by changing Exhast and Pod but Mikey's right can't just change the tip you need to go all the way back and get it done by a professional they know what they are doing and will also ensure there are no leaks or back fires along the way!
