Dyno Results

Dyno Dynamis dyno I got 111 kw atw from a stock FTO engine + 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, high flow cat and half the intake taken off.

However, without any intake (taken off from the throttle body) it did 112.4 kw atw
Why such a small change?
This was at 8000rpm but the car doesn't feel like it pulls that hard after 7ish.

Haven't seen the dyno chart yet, when I have it I will post it up

Are you using the original intake pipe after the throttle body?

As the original pipe is quite restrictive and good gains can be made by changing it.

If you look at the FTO project section , have a look at the CAI intake pipe compared to the stock one.

I was happy!
I was worried I would be under 100kw atw

And Grant dyno'd his car on the same dyno and got 112kw atw (I think) but has an exhaust, air intake and a unichip.


As for the intake, it's the FTO intake untill the airbox, after that there is just a hole where the rest of the piping is supposed to be in FTO's. This was taken off for a 1.4kw gain and apparently high up in the revrange which would be impossible to notice. I don't know why that is to be honest. He said no point in putting a filter with CAI. But on hot days the car is a lot slower than cooler days???

Apparently after extractors and so on the filter and CAI will make more of a difference

what dyno was this on????

normally manuals with this sort of mods get to 100-105kW max ...

dyno readings are a bid dodgy in general the key to making sure you have accurate results is to always use the same dyno and do a before and after (preferably as quickly as possible so that temp / humidity are the same)...

actually i pulled 115.9kw atw :D
I am about to do a major service, so im going to try and get it a bit higher as well... and changing to all NGK Iridium plugs.

Spetz, who dyno'd it for you?

At the end of the day, if you want some serious power from the FTO - extractors are the way to go imo - just look at Boris'!

I have those iridinium plugs. They 100,000 km ones isn't it?

It was at Jake's dyno.

Why what does Boris make? What extractors does he have?
is his car quick?

If I recall correctly Boris made 126kw at the wheels.

And it was shootout mode 6 on a Dynamics dyno.....I think.

This a dynomatics roller dyno, myself, Spetz, Boris and Jono have all dyno'd our cars on this dyno.

If i was after some big power gains, i would def be going down the path of extractors, but im content with the power i have now.

Watching Boris' car crush my (what i thought was impressive) dyno output :cry:

By the way this weekend I'll be at Charlie's, that friend of mine with the silver EG Civic is getting a 1.6 VTEC YO!!!!! in his car done :)
But still man I felt your car pulled better (or at least more lineant) at the top end? Remember I even hit your rev limiter by accident. In mine I can't do that as you feel the power cut off and know it's time to change gears.


And Grant, what did Boris do??

I noptice the KPH is way over 180KPH, I assume this was dynoed on 3rd gear ?

there are technically 2 types of dyno machine.

1. the usual dyno on the rollers (which im sure afterburner was referring to) where ther tyres spins on the rollers.

2. the HUB version, where you have to take your wheels off ( i think) - im not sure how exactly this one works.

Hub dynos will display a much higher dyno output.
You cant really compare a hub dyno to a roller dyno.

frankly i dunno why some of you are so worried over a handful of kilowatts' worth of difference.... at the end of the day, it's only a number FFS - get over it.

so what if you had 110 vs 115kw+? you can barely feel the 5kw difference on the road anyway and if anything, it'll all come down to your reaction time off the line and how/where you shift according to your torque band.

what you should really be looking at is the torque curve / figures - this will ultimately dictate how hard your car can pull... A car with a more linear / wide spread of torque will be quicker than a car that only makes usable torque at the top end - y'all should know this by now: "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races"

whats the point of that??
and yes, i agree with Mikey, a handful of KW isnt going to make a difference if yr reaction times are bad. :roll:
