Connecting a MIVEC Controller

so here's the deal:
When I bought my FTO it had a MIVEC Controller already in it, but its not connected.
Now i dont know wether its broken or just needs hooking up, but i'm getting an auto electrician to look at it, but he asked me if i could get any specs to help him.
So i was wondering if anyone knows anywhere to get the specs and some more detailed info about them?
And also, on a side note.
How many of you have a MIVEC Controller, and if you do, what do you think? noticable power improvement midrange?
And where did you get yours installed?

This has been discussed quite a few times on the UK forum and it seems to be agreed that the MIVEC controler reduces performance!
Mitsi have the cams changing to MIVEC at 5800 revs, which apparently (according to everyone who has a controller) it the perfect setting. 1/4 mile tests have backed up this theory too.
I don't have a controller, so I'm only passing on what I've heard, maybe if you have a lot of other mods it might make a bigger difference?

Yeah advancing the mivec cut off point is a waste of time. You will loose power by setting it any earlier, some have said that setting it a little later has made a bit of improvement but there is no data to back that up. Basically it's just a gadget to show your rpm in digital terms.
My advice if your going to hook it up, just have the mivec setting turned off, that way it will switch over at the normal factory setting.
*edit* it's not a site on how to hook it up but i'm guessing this is the type of Mivec controller you have so here's a site to help understand it better

Did you check your ECU's wiring loom, for an adapter? cos it might already have the adapter there.
This happened to me when i bough it... I think the adapter is green with black wires.. it's not small, so you can't miss it.

Hmmmm how come no one mention which brand of mivec controller we talking about here? RSpec or Apexi?

I just assume a lot on friday... i just assumed that it's an R-Spec one...

Yeah, one is the older one which i have, like in the link, and the other one is more like the older apexi RSM's... and it's blue in colour...

sorry, i lost track of this thread after i posted it, lol =)
The thing is, its not like any other one i have seen and i have thought more then once that it might be fake - just something the previous owner stuck on.....
It says "Deutaro produced by Daytona" on the top and has a on/off button and a dial. Its a small metal finish box that sits in front of my dials on my dash.
I have been in contact with a company called Daytona who make various car products, but they make it....
I need to find out if it is real or fake...

never heard of this one before....
i have a vafc in my car as well as a piggy back... all the mods are done through the piggy back... i'm really only using the vafc for monitoring intake pressure (still trying to build an airbox that creates positive pressure)....
i'm retuning the computer in the next few weeks after putting on a modified intake plenum / throttle body, i'll be playing with the vafc to shift the mivec point only...
as far as i can tell from 0-100km times using my rsm, reducing the engagement point of mivec really slows down the car... increasing it didn't really seem to do much but this is hardly perfect testing....
I'm really not worried about 1/4 mile or 100km times more about mid to high end power as i'm focused on track use not straightlining the car so my analysis isn't for everyone
