hey,
fairly new here. got my fto a few months back which is pretty much stock except for a hks dragger exaust. first i decided to attack the exterior and then go on to the engine side of things. picked up a set of 18*8 rims and the kit i wanted isnt available in melb (which is a topmix kit - ends up costing too much to get it from carmate in syd who according to u guys are suspect anyway)so am dumping the exterior for now. what according to you guys would be the best mods i could get done on the engine. i hate how it performs before the mivec kicks in and wanna add something to make it go a lot harder from what it is right now and where would i be able to get the mods in melb? the exaust sounds great but i feel the car is sluggish before 4000 rpms, could be coz its a triptronic.

yeah, the tiptronic does feel very slugish before 4000rpm but thats how most autos are, hence why people that want that extra speed go for a manual.

A lot of people like to give their car an air induction mod to give it more air flow and hear the Mivec roar

Yep, get your air intake sorted. Then if ya got a couple of bucks, try making your shiny exhaust tip into a proper system & get some extractors...

I'd have to say the best mod i've done to mine are the RPW extractors. Made a real noticible difference. Added with a cold air intake , they makes a huge difference.

Well most performance shop like Rev Zone, Cyber Century......etc. Just don't go to Autobarn as they going empty your pocket with their prices.

hey guys, i spoke to advan in silverwater and they said putting extractors on a auto fto is useless as it would only b a max gain of 3% and waste of cash,and the auto gearbox wouldnt b able 2 handle the strain.
what do u guys think? has any one have dyno read outs before and after

Ask them where they get those figure from? & which type of extractors? Custom, RPW, Creative, or Pro-IIDA?

Theres some review on RPW extractor already, I've got a dyno before & after, but thats with other mod as well. I end up with 10kwatw gain.

There are few of us in Melbourne got RPW extractor & at least 2 with Tiptronic, as far as I know, none of us have any problem.

They say that the tip is stronger than the manual. And can handle more strain than manual. Especially the 5spd tip which is used on Moritakus Mivec+Turbo which he claims produces about 500+ bhp. It is used also on Galant Vr-4s. SO if it can handle a 6A13TT i don't think that whatever you do to the engine wilol make it pop easily.

Its a different box on the Galant VR-4, because it's a 4WD box. Probably uses many of the same components though...

If you get just the extractors, they will cost you $710.
If you get them HPC coated add $220
If you get the RPW Hi-flow cat converter to suit add $270

They'll take about a week to get them in for you.
Just be wary - although they are one of the best performance enhancing dollar for Kilowatt improvments I have made - they were a c_nt to fit. Took me 4 hours & a lot of heating, bending & hole filing to get 'em right.

And if you really want to make the most of them - get the rest of your exhaust done - 2 1/2" all the way to the tip.

well if they are a c*nt to install y didnt u get them to do it?.... i wouldnt have a clue how to do anything so il leave it to them i think...anyone know wats the goin rate

I guess its because he want to save money, as these are really a bitch to install, & if you don't know your mechanic well, you be up for a huge labour bill.

Had I known how much of a mungrel they were gonna be I would've given 'em to my mechanic...

Then again - I may have just been unlucky..
Personally I reckon the guy at RPW who was welding them up on their jigs was either drunk or blind

But yes, it was a cost saving.

Was that Race or Street? RPW have just published a price list on which they list Street extractors as $560 and HPC as $175.

They were street.
But you may find those prices you've got are wholesale. Ie you gotta go through one of their distributors to get them for yourself. If not - then buy! buy!
