Few days ago I purchased one of those stainless steel brushed dash panels. While I was installing I saw the burned fog light switch. I new that it failed about 2 years ago on previous owner, and cost around $200 to fix it as far as I remember from the old service receipt.

Check this photo out.

Now, that seems to me pretty intense heat. This could almost cause a fire.

I remember one fellow forum member found a solution to this problem by adding an additional relay.

Just wanted to make you guys aware on this issue, and consequences again.

Regards

I recently took my dash apart for the 100th time, and noticed a similar thing. My fog lights still turn on, but sometimes I cant get them off! I need to check that I plugged it in properly, but I think I may need a new switch etc,.

never had a problem with my fog lights..... until now....

one day they were working fine, the next the fog lights wont turn on like they used to.

A very dim light comes on, but the main lights that used to turn on dont anymore =(

anyone had this problem, is it just a switch issue or a wiring thing?

.

its both...kinda

Same thing happend to mine. Apparently there is a small ball bearing inside the switch mechanism that gets to hot and burns through the plastic.

I went to a wreckers, got a new switch and got a autoelec to fix it up back with a relay. That relay is important.

its fine now....

there is a post around her somewhere that talks about it more..
..trying to find it ..

hmmm. think it was thirty bucks (the wrecker wasnt very bright hhe)

IF u tell the autoelec your problem.. say it keeps burning out..
and mention the relay

they should know what to do.. try and go to a reputable place not some shifty guy...

If you show an auto sparkie that and he doesn't know what to do. Take it somewhere else and save yourself some trouble.

8O My hubby is working on this problem right as we talk. The bulbs are supposed to be 55 watt, which is what is in mine, but the wiring on the switch still overheats and has burn marks exactly like the one in the photo. Basically he's putting in a relay and that will fix the problem. He asked me if I wanted 100 watters in there :D :D but I declined. Now back to "some shifty guy" 8O 8O 8O

Just a quick warning on the EBay thing for these. I was going to buy mine on EBay, but the ending price ended up being more that the cost from the suppliers listed against the link above. Done pay more than 16 pounds as it can be bought for less at Type F Products (See URL above)
