Just some rumours which I have heard...

Hey guys,
I have been hearing a lot of things about FTO's rattling quite excessivly. Now, I own two Pioneer TS-W121SPL Subwoofers and a Pioneer GM-5100T amp. Will this cause a lot of rattling in the FTO? I've heard of some people take the 6 by 9's out of the rear and just replace the grills as to give the sound waves from the sub somewhere to go. Is this a good idea? Will this make it less prone to rattling?
Any advice would be great.

Have a search on sound proofing the ass end of the car - FTO's are renowned for having very ordinary sound proofing at the back.... and plastic clips that break... and windows that rattle in their guides... and rear seat belts that knock against the plastic side panels....dont get me started on rattles - a pet hate & and endless chase!!

Every noise you just mentioned I have and more.
Number plate rattle
Aerial rattle
Top brake light rattle
Rear parcel shelf rattle
But the most annoying one is the passenger seat belt knocking on the plastic thingy in the back.
Torture i tells you.

So would having no rear speakers help at all?

Nah, but if your gonna bugger around with speakers in the back, its a good opportunity to rip the shelf out & replace any clips & bits that need it & then bolt your speakers back in hard...

I havent done my sound proofing (ie dynamat) yet which will help out a lot plus I just painted my car so a lot of things went back on quickly that I havent got around to tighting yet.

Most rattling issues can be sorted out, provided you take sufficient care with an install. Things like sound deadening, threadlocking bolts to prevent them coming loose to vibration, all help..
Taking out the rear speakers isn't going to do much for the problem.

nah i think the best way to do it is take all of them out, rear parcel would be a bit harder i guess
mine's doing ta same, haven't figure out where it's coming from yet, use to be the number plate

to get rid of the rattling without doing extensive sound proofing to yr car is to replace the rear 6x9 grill with a custom one and heavily sound deaden yr boot lid. This will take away most of the rattling. I think once u have done this u will quite pleased with the results.
Take it this advice from someone that had three 12" subs in the boot

So far I have dynamatted the boot lid and both doors.
I am goign to remove the 2 plastic interior covers (rear seat sides) this weekend look for a good cheap way of fixing them.

I might have the same problem as you. The plastic on the side of the rear seats is rattling and the seat belt is too, also the seat belt tensioner is making a squeaking noise
so many problems, maybe I should just remove my sub

Why are you adding sound proofing? You should be getting rid of it!!!

Because not everyone drives a car like a racecar.
I enjoy cruising in my car and listening to good music.
I doubt my car will ever go out on a track.
That is why I am sound proofing it. OK

I hate rattles. More than anything i hate rattles. I tuck my passenger seat into the guide on the seat. Well i did till i got throwovers now i tuck it into the door.
