yes, i replaced them as i couldnt understand why my car kept on misfiring after i had replaced the leads and spark plugs. Turned out to be one of the coil packs were dead. I called up Mitsubishi and they quoted me $300 for a new one. Called up a lot of wreckers, hardly any of them had it, from the ones that did they quoted $120. I went with a second hand one because they are meant to last a fair while anyway.
So far no problems. $300 is just ridiculous amount to pay for a coil pack

Theres obviously 3 coil packs. They are plugged into 3 spark plugs. U should take each plug and check which one is the most worn (usually very black) and check the area that goes over the plugs for any white lines.

Nope - only 3. Each one sparks 2 cyclinders. One from the front & one from the rear bank

Yep - but each pack sparks 2 cylinders (not at the same time)
If you pull the front rocker cover off you'll see the pack sitting right atop each of the front plugs & a lead running from each pack to the rear cylinders.
I cant remember the order off the top of my head - but its sorta like cylinder 1 & 5, 3 & 4, 2 & 6...

Yep - spot on mate. At the rear the leads go straight onto the plugs.

For people who are scratching their heads wondering why there's only half the number of coil packs, here's the long and short of it:

I remember posting something a while back about it all, but that just sums it up nicely.
