When I had the front bumper off today, I was having a little bit of a think re getting some more cool air into the system. What I want to know is if the following is likely to work:
If I attach an additional pipe through the location marked in the picture above and have it fed directly from the airflow through the front grill, will it provide a benefit. Im not thinking of shutting much of the front grill off just enough for a 7cm odd pipe (so hopefully shouldnt effect the radiator too much). If I attach it to the existing air cleaner pipe, it can suck additional air from the standard location as well.
Would this work, or is it just a waste of time. I have an ARC box in place of the standard air cleaner.

a guy in my club ran 3 inch pipeing from the intake to the front grill by removing that very duct and tracing its place with the pipeing
i was rather suprised it never stalled

Ahhh,
But does it make a difference????? I dont really want to cut up the plastic radiator shields if it doesnt have any benefit.

In short, yes, poking a hole in that box would provide another inlet to your intake filter, and as we all know, the quicker the air gets there, the better.
You would probably also get some sought of whistling noise at high speeds as so much air tries to get into such a small hole.
Why mitsubishi decided to curve the stock intake like that I have NFI....but they must have been on crack to think that's efficient.

I say take the whole thing out.
If you have time i can show you what i have done.
Also, i recently did Jono's.. it is also pretty good, doesn't run all the way across the bumber like mine, but still gets decent air.
In terms of performance, i don't know what air filter you have, but most likely you will not feel the difference, how ever there will be one...
Just not massive..
That's my 2 cents

Comes in from the side at the top centre (follow the pipe up). In other words, there is no forced air, it sucks it from under the bonnet which ultimately is warm.

So you mean the air goes under the grill up into the feeder then back down and up again to the pod ??

Post above: Yep
Post above that:Yep,
Thats similar to what I was looking at. I thought that if I inserted a right angle pipe (where the red arrow is in the original pic I posted) facing the grill (as in the pic above), it would work. Sounds like its better to re-run the pipe completely though due to restrictions. I quite like what Boris has done too (link above) as it probably would force more air into the box.
PS, dont mind that bodykit on the front of that thing - what is it???
Got into a bit of a mess here - I think we all sent posts at the same time. Updated mine so makes a little more sense.

if your refering to my pic, its a bozzspeed front. ive seen those pipes in my pic sold on ebay for like 70$. dunno how good they would be though. though it looks like boris's design would get a lot more air in to the filter

Yep, I must admit, as good as it looks, it is rather small. Maybe a BIGGER one!!! (or maybe just use Boris Design).
I guess its the age old aesthetics vs efficiency thing. Look better, or go better?
