Hi... sorry, second post for the day but I'm desperately trying to find out what the engine number is on my car but can't seem to find it anywhere. Do I have to remove any parts to get to the engine number?

it's under the bonnet son

no parts need to be moved. you just haven't found it yet. I can't remember what the numbers are for a mivec engine but I found them by googling it....
I think it's on the japanese manufacture plate not the oz compliance plate
the 3 area to look,
jap compliance plate (original it is in english)
Oz compliance plate
number printed stamnped into the firewall driver side engine bay near the compliance plate, if you see a plate that has a number with IMPORT as part ignore it that's the Oz chassis number or something like that.

i thought that was the chassis number and not the engine number? The chassis number is the one that starts with DE3A******** and it's on the Jap Plate and on the firewall as well.
engine number should be 6A12****** something like that. At least that's what I think it should be anyway.

I believe it may be on the left hand side of the engine down near the gearbox.
It's in one of the newish posts on FTOOC.

hehehe... yeah that's where I thought it was but there's all the radiator piping, air box etc. in the way. i didn't want to go and take all the stuff off only to find that it's not there.

Ahaha, taking the airbox off takes me less than 5 minutes.
Probably 'cos I've done it far too many times

Hi all... just to let you know that I managed to find the Engine Number plate on the engine.
For future reference in case anybody else is trying to do the same, on the MIVEC engine, it's stamped on the passenger side of the engine, close to where the edge of the exhaust manifold is. If you have a tiptronic box, if you look at the side of the engine in line with the tranny filter and dipstick.
Maybe it's not such a great description but at least you're not looking blindly anymore
The engine code would be 6A12******
I'm assuming that all the codes are 10 digits long but somebody else can confirm that.
