Motorsport Under Gaurds

To you guys who have lowered your cars with 17 + wheels. you'l prolly know that theres always allot of wheel/tyre scrapage against those plastic gaurds.

Is there any alternative like getting a metal(sheet) gaurd fabricated to allow for more room inside the wheel arch. Kinda like the V8 supercar wheel arch's, theyre all made of aluminium or something. Plus we could always spray it with a road protection material/fluid so it doesnt rust...

anyone thought of this?

I gather you would be looking at hefty dollar figures to get this done, with moulding/fabricating being the killer.

However, these are definately high up on the "most wanted" list of FTO parts, close to the center console.

yeah i would think..........GROUP BUY!!!!!!!!!!

But its a good idea, because there isnt much stroke room under those gaurds otherwise i ride my car much lower.. 8)

Mine are broke to hell, an after they put the front fender back on they didn't screw the gaurd in so it vibrates :( I want a metal one :)

sitting on 190kmph.... (yeah yeah i know) the repaired guards snapped and were rubbing on the tyres... so im a bit worried that if i construct something metal it could cut, or worse, blow a tyre... and with all the highway driving i do, blowing a tyre at 100k isnt a good image i want in my head... so i have no idea how to bodge the bloody thing on

it will only cut into the tyre if there is a sharp edge, which shouldnt as it will be a flat surface...Curved...

The plastic ones are rubbish, mine are shot, but they are replaceable...

A nice bit of sheet aluminium would probably do the trick. You may not be able to get it completely round, but if you were to put folds in it every 100mm or so it might be ok...

I'm thinking of getting an alloy sheet, cut it to the appropriate size and bend it, then possibly drill holes in what remains of my plastic guards, and use pop rivets to secure it... that atleast could help a little bit where the tyres scrapes..

ideas?

guys, i replaced my front underlinings just before i sold the FTO.
and its fairly easy, but its a pain in the ass doing (well doing properly)
I can only imagine how dificult it would be to fit metal!
Just replace them with the plasticy type, and either get a smaller tyre or raise the car.

Group buy! I'm in, I also need the bolts and sh*t to secure it, because mine seem to have gone missing in the accident repair process and now it just flaps around annoyingly.

forgive me for being retarted but I assume we are talking about the plastic crap that is suposed to cover the inside of the wheel arch...which is totally busted on my left front wheel...if we get some I'm in also.

Thats the ones...

Did we ever do a buy on these before? If so from where? I can approach them for bulk discount I spose. I've gone off the idea of steel ones. I think that whole section under there & the connections to the bumper are meant to have flex. I'd hate to have a low kms impact with something & have a tyre slashed.

but we could work on some aerodynamic gaurd that creates a vortex.. and then the car fly's.....

or maybe just a vortex
