I have just found out what was causing my radiator hose to collapse. I thought it might be worth creating a new post for this as it is potentially a nasty problem if not caught early, particularly with Summer coming on

The pipe in the overflow bottle was blocked (SOLID). Couldnt suck anything through the pipe. This is a really bad thing as it will cause the car to overheat (QUICKLY). As the radiator cant suck water from the overflow bottle, it seems to cause a vacuum in the pipe between the radiator and the filler cap. This will stop (or severly curtail) the flow of water through the engine. Additionally, it will put a lot of load on the water pump.

Only takes a moment to check. If it can happen to me, it can happen to you.....

What I normally do during summer is get one of those slick50 or similar products for the engine, as it reduces the friction & protects it during hot weather. You will notice the temperature different, especially during traffic lights idle.

But the down side of any of these products are that they leave a residual after a while, as most of them are Teflon base and it can cause a problem if you don’t clean it up. So I flash the engine with those engine flush products after summer, & just run the car with normal engine oil until summer comes again.
