My GPX is starting to leak oil from the head gasket, I got a very rough quote and it may cost me about $1200 as it's a 6 cylinder.

Does anyone know those stop engine leak product work or not???

The head gasket / cyl head leaking is a commen problem on the FTO but it is not the head gasket as most people think.

It is normally the sealer between the top half (Mivec section) and the lower half (Cyl head section) of th two piece cylinder head on the Mivec models.

These are expensive to do as we virtually have to pull th emotor out of the car to do this.

We aer doing several of these at this moment and they are a $1000.00 job plus extras. You want to replace the timing beelt and tensioner at the same time. The sealer breaks down over time and causes an oil leak.

:? Unfortunately ..... me as well. I got quoted approx $1500.00 and they need the car for 3 days...... (Unique Auto)

I am holding off at the moment - I'm getting close to the cam belt replacement anyways so I want to get both done at the same time....

:D

hi guys, I had leaking cam seals for quite a long time, some of you might have heard me whinge about this before!
I had my cam seals replaced, rocker gasket cover, timing belt, plugs, some fuel line flushed or something and a few other belts all done at the same time, it was pre 90 000km, but wasnt worth taking out the engine to do just half the job!

It cost me a bomb about 1000 in labour, and another 1200 in parts (inluding brakes etc). The guys who did my car were pro mech in richmond. They have a good rep, but quite $$$ so make sure you get a quote written on paper before they do anywork!

I had an oil leak issue and after pulling the engine out twice I ended up replacing all the gaskets and seals. Costly job due to the V6 configuration. But with 85K on the clock I wanted to ensure the job was done wright. If you need to get a VRS kit, Mitsubishi has them. Order from the spare parts dept.

The oil leak seems to be a must to look for if your buying an FTO. Someone who has fixed it properly will save you $2K.

I guess the FTO is almost 10 years old. Hey isn't the FTO 10 years old in October? Anyone know the date? We should get a cake.

John.

Funny this should have come up when it did, but I dropped my car off to get the cam seals replaced today. It will take about 3-4 days depending on workload.

I have no idea what it will cost as it is a warranty job. It is annoying and inconvenient, but I am glad that it is happening now and not in 12 months time when it would not be covered.

Damn! No FTO to drive! Oh well, just hope they do a proper job. Don't trust mechanics affiliated with car yards. (No offence to anyone on this forum, naturally! :D )
