hey guys seing how ftos are being imported from jap with low kms..
there are a lot of fto's in aus for sale.. with low kms .still. now i dunno if this is true or not.. but do you think everyone is unplugging their spedos.
i know a person whos done it to their fto i think its sad though. really unfair. my car has done 134,000kms. i bought it when on 87,000. 2.5yrs ago. do you think people here in aus really do like 5 kms a yr or so ? i find it really hard to belive? i know wich cable to unplug to disconect my spedo. but i dont have the heart to do it
what do you guys think ?

Yeah ofcourse there is people doing it. but i guess there is kurupt people everywhere atleast there is still some people with heart still round

More often than not, theyre replacing the clusters, not disconnecting the speedo

sweet how do you do that, Sorry jokes. Nah but doesnt the amount of kms show up on the slip everytime you get your car registered etc?

They do this before the car is exported to aus.

Yeah... it happens. I know a bloke that I can just give any digital instrument cluster to & 3 days later he'll bring it back with half the kms gone.... no questions asked

hmm yeah it just sucks for ppl trying to sell their ftos. ppl are gonna say well i can get this one same price.. or because it has less kms.
making us with a lot of kms bad

Unfortnately in the world we live, a lot of people are out to make a buck or forty million. Use your common sense & you'll find your way through.

Are the KMs stored in the car computer or the dial dash panel? i.e. which one do you need to replace to lower the KMs?

A better indication is to look for signs of wear and tear.
Check the condition of the door trims, condition of the carpet (especially the drivers side) and the condition of the black painted trim around the windows. And of course then there's the obvious ones like condition of the engine and suspension. A specialist mechanic that works on FTO's or at least Japanese imports can generally tell pretty accurately if the k's are accurate from the condition of the engine.

For example, I bought my car with 48,000 k's on the clock. For a 94 model, I just assumed the clock had been wound back. However, the door trims and carpet are in excellent condition. 3 mechanics prior to seeing the car all told me the k's have probably been wound back. All 3 changed their minds after examining the car and have said they believe it's most likely genuine. So either the car was rarely driven OR the engine (and possibly instrument cluster) was replaced.
