Rotors/Discs

Hi,
I got the following DBA part numbers for the FTO GPX.
Gold series (cross drilled/slotted):
425x (Front)
547x (Rear)
Rang Bursons, and I got quoted:
425x: $150 each
547x: Non existent?
Standard:
425 (Front): ?
547(Rear): $170 each
Ye... im a bit lost as to the pricing of these and why the 547x is non existent?
If anyone have any info on these, and can direct me to the cheapest place to source them would be greatly appreciated.

Gotta be careful with your terminology Ken. The 547x does exist, I reckon the bloke you spoke to was on drugs.
This is the Gold series - cross drilled & slotted - for High performance street use
425x - front
547x - rear
This is the slotted unit for track use
425s - front
547s - rear
Standard replacements
425 - front
547 - rear
Or if you go nuts (like I did

) go for the 4000 series
I can get them at trade price if you like - but they'll have to be freighted from Syd. A Vic member may know where to get them down there

It seems the part number for this is 4425S
whats the difference between DBA Slotted disk (blue header) and DBA 4000 Slotted disk (gold header)?

The 4000 series have a few qualities that the others dont. They have the 'kangaroo paw' air channels which allow more efficient air cooling. Also a thermo temp gauge on them which allows you to actually see what temp you've got the discs too.

actually u done even need slotteds at the rear, they do so minimal work.
so pple have nvr chged their stock rear pads after 160k kms and the rear rotors are virtually new.

wish i could say the same for mine...
when i looked at my rotors more closely after washing the car, i see rust... and it looks UGLY as hell.
i dont think the rotors have been changed at all since its been rolled out of the production line

Yeah but that doesnt mean they are worn & need replacing. Rust build up is common on all mild steel parts that are exposed to the elements. Take your wheel off & get going with the sandpaper & high temp paint!

hmmz... that does sound like a cheaper option
sandpaper huhz? any grit in particular?
the rust is on the bulged out bit, where the wheel is placed on... dunno how to describe it lol.
not my actual rotors, but i dare say the rust is somewhat similar...
so its safe to spray that whole rusty bit?
would that look dodgy? - altho im realising that im doing a "dodgy" anyway.
maybe i should spray my calipers at the same time if im going to this...

Yep, thats quite common mate. Just grab some sandpaper - prolly anywhere between 600 - 800 grit will do it & go for it. When painting, I recommend you use a spray primer paint first, then spray with colour. Also good to run degreaser over the whole assembly first otherwise the paint wont stick!

You wouldn't see the front part of that when you got your wheels attached anyway but it would look good to clean up for Autosalon.

hey Ken
I did mine and just used the caliper sprey from autobahn. I spreted the hubs and the breakes and it works fine..done about 300km since and still looks the same. I did mine in black cos I didn't want themt to stand out. Was thinking of re-doing them in red...but nar...

precisely why i wanted to change my rotors or spray em lol...
hmmz, red paint...
dunno what paint to use on a silver car, and broze wheels. Ive seen yellow before...

This is my birthday today, and she has agreed to buy me DBA disks as a present.
I will make her very happy tonight…

I thought the slotted disk is better for street use then track. I remember there were few conversation that drilled disks start cracking in street use.
Which one should I choose? Slotted (standard slotted) or slotted and crossed drilled (standard gold)? (I don’t do track work with this car)
Should I choose 4000 series? How much more for 4000 series? I can get trade price as well. Gf’s father have access to ABS products. Don’t I lucky?

Okay, did a bit of research on these today.
The 425x & 425s are just standard rotors drilled (425x) or slotted (425s)
They take about 2 weeks to manufacture (or should I say have holes drilled in them or slots grooved in) and are about $140 a wheel.
The 4000 series is a much better metal in the disc & has better ventilation, both between the discs & with the slots.
I was heavily advised for any spirited driver to go with the 4000's. My cost is about $200 per disc
