Just over 6k???

Hi. I own a '95 GPX tip. I am looking to sell my car but I don't want to let it go before it is working properly. I am having a problem with it not revving out to 8000rpm, it feels like it hits a rev limiter at around the 6k mark. I did have the alternator reconditioned and it hasn't been working properly since then (I have read posts about alternators not being done properly, but everytime I mention that to a diagnostician or mechanic, they look at me like I've been bonging on) There was a fault code that came up earlier this week for the throttle position sensor, but I've changed the stepper motor and that code hasn't come back. Apart from that, no codes. I'm really stuck as to what it could be. If anyone knows a mechanic or diagnostician in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area who's handy with FTO's that would be great too.

The guy that did my alternator said that because of the low charge before i got it fixed,it could have caused some issues with the computer.

i think the obvious thing that everyone will say is: are you trying to rev to 8k within 10-15mins of starting the car?
if the engine hasnt warmed up enough it wont let you rev all the way to 8k

Yeah. I let it warm up well enough before I try. Still no go. I took the diagnostic guy for a spin yesterday while his computer was plugged in, alternator is charging perfectly.

check if your knock sensor is plugged in, if its not I have heard that mivec won't kick in and the rev limiter works a 6000rpm

A flakey alternator can definately do that.
There is a feedback line from the alternator to the ECU.
If the ECU isn't 100% happy with the signal it recieves, it will figure it may have problems charging the ignition coils at high RPM and knock out your top end to be safe.
At least thats the theory.
See any number of other alternator threads around at the moment for more details.

I've had a better guy look at it and it was the alternator. It's being redone as we speak. Vindication is sweet, looks like I'm not high after all. Thanks heaps for your help guys, I really appreciate it.
