okay picking up a set of rims on THURSDAY need to know some stuff about tyres, particularily NANKANG and FALKEN. My options are the set with the nankangs for 1800 and the same set with the falken for 2200.

Now is it really worth spending the extra 400 for the better wheels.
How much difference will their be, if its a matter of well dude u have spent 1800 u might as well spend 400 more to get the quality tyres that will be heaps better than so bE it

But if the difference is only minimal why not save 400 bucks.

I do have the 400 bucks to spend, but would prefer to sepend it elswhere, like king springs or exhaust etc etc

SO ANY ADVICE ON THE TYRES WOULD BE MUCHILY APPRECIATED

I'd probably go the Nankangs. It might depend on the type of Nankang / Falken you're getting but I'd hazard a guess and say that the included tyres are of the lower end (in terms of performance).

Personal opinion: Nankangs over the Falkens

Just make sure you get a good wheel balance and alignment.

well i guess the marketing invloved says it all, pay 1800 get the nankangs, or pay 2200 and get the falkens. ones better than the other obvioulsy, but by how much is the question

if its falken ze326 they are horrible... worst gripping tyres ive ever had
the falken ST115 are pretty good last u about 50,000 - 60,000kms

done some research from the ftooc forum and most of the dudes their reakon nankangs are ordinary, is that the general consesus

I currently run the ZE326 as day to day tyres, pretty ordinary IMO. Great so far as low road noise, and are very sticky on hot bitchumen. But... as they they wear, they become dreadful & even worse in the wet... like a dog on a lino floor.



Having said that, its only that particular type of Falken I dont like. I going to try out their RT615 semi race. They are about $150 more per tyre, but stick like baby sh*t to a blanket. Went for a run in a rotor that had them on & it was face against window stuff.



Another recommendation I've had for a good low price tyre is the Federal SS595. Great tyre for not much coin - bout $175 each retail

The nankangs are good budget tyres, do not under any circumstances purchase silverstone tyres they are extremely hard compound giving you very little grip in the dry, and almost no grip in the wet.

If you have the money fork for some good ones, I have Goodyear F1 GSD3's, or something, they're well over 500 a pop, but they are amazing tyres. On the rear I have top of the range "royal" tyres which are close in performance.

Generally speaking you get what you pay for. Remember that your tyres are what is keeping you from hitting things. If you are an aggressive driver then good tyres are a must. I currently have crappy tyres on my FTO because they came with it, but will be changing them soon. Ill probably be buying a set of Falkens next as ive had them in the past and have been really happy with them (as distinct from the tyres on the car at the moment which were cheap).

Yes, 2 of mine are Silverstones (they came with the car). DONT GO THERE.

Need some more info if you can on the TYPE of Nankangs / Falkens. But from what you're saying I'd say just get the cheapest ones.

As said the 326s are pretty bad in the wet (Bennoz I can't believe you run them lol ).

Scarecrow The GS-D3s shouldn't be that expensive!! I picked up a pair of 235/45ZR17s for $210 each last week. They are excellent tyres for their price.

Well i've tried all NS2, G3, currently running azenis so i'll come up with a experience suggestion

NS2 - Good for the price, average all rounder, better then silverstone (two of my Nankang tyre blew up)

G3 - good for cornering but crappy grib, everyone say it gribs but i disagree

Azenis - Very good grib on dry & not bad for wet, better then G3 but not a cornering tyre, it screams like a ***** for sharp corner

If you're comparing from Nankang to Falken you're pretty much just comparing to grip no handling so it depends on what you really want out of those tyres

id go with the nankangs they both arent performance tyres so paying extra for the falkens arent justified

are you getting 17's or 18's?

my 17s came with falkens... and to be honest they were not that bad... just wore out quite quickly.


im running goodyear eagle f1 gsd3's now. Got them for $230 each. and been very happy with them (except I have just punctured one for the second time!).

ive had the nankangs and when they popped i got the falkens... when the falkens were new they were ok... but when the go to about 70% started feeling like sh*t... when im changing gears at 8000rpm... it breaks traction :s

Sorry I got my price wrong, $580 for a pair, but still, you guys got them so much cheaper!

This was from beaurepairs at parra, he claimed it was below there wholesale price at the time. I went to buy another set at australias best tyre and auto and they wanted 600+ for two!!!

What's the go? Where am I meant to be buying these things from, cause i love em!

Mine are 235/40ZR17 by the way, i think they're rare, or something.

I think im 215 45 17.....

And when I rang around they were 250-280 at other places. I haggled with beaurepaires in boxhill for a different set of tyres which they wouldnt budge on but they offered me GSD3's for $230 instead, providing i bought 4 new tyres. I think i got a pretty good price as know one else matched it or got close. I rang a lottttta places.

i got mine for $250 for 2x nankangs ns-2 215/45R17 and $300 for 2x falken 326 215/45R17
