depends how you want to do it....and how much u wanna spend

you can get an itrip, or some sort of cassette module....

or you can do a better install and get an adaptor for the back of your headunit. If your headunit is ipod ready or has an auxillary input you can run your ipod off that. A couple of new systems have just been launched with craddles etc as well but they are about $300 installed.

really depends how good you want it to look, sound etc. and whether you care if your ipod is in a craddle vs just sitting in the glovebox or passenger seat.

If my Headunit had a Auxiliary Input, what type of cable is needed to attach the iPod to the system??

Where can I get this cable from?

How much should I expect to pay?

Would there be a loss in Sound Quality in doing so?

Cheers
Andy

i use a rca cable for my aux, but u need a connecter for the stereo jack...

i dont think u'll need to pay that much, theres cheap and expensive rca cables, do a search on ebay =)

in terms of loss in sound quality, i havn't noticed any (probably because its not that much anyway)...

you MUST use a "dock connector" to rca type adapter, or, if theres a specific one for your hu (ie, dock to alpine ai-net...) use that.

you lose a SHITLOAD of sound quality using the headphone jack, or an itrip, etc. If anyone wants the technical reasons, i can point you to a 20 page long thread on CAA discussing the technical reasons.

I can notice it. The difference between radio quality and a nice pure mp3 (high bitrate) is staggering.

using the dock connector bypasses the ipods internal (sh*tty) amp. Also, turn all eq's off, and set the volume to about halfway, and you'll be laughing.

best option, is probably a dock connector that charges the ipod and gives you rca outs, in a cradle. The ipods currently THE BEST way to control, well, the ipod. The hu methods are currently shithouse.

I'll second ya on the dock connector Liquidity.

I have an itrip which gives crap quality sound. There is usually a faint hum from it, static, and if the volume level on the ipod is not set perfectly then you get a distorted signal or a quiet one. The noises you get from the i-trip are subtle, but when you compare it to a cd or I-Pod adaptor input, they are worlds apart.

I also have an alpine deck with I-Pod adaptor box. This allows me to control the ipod from the deck, shows the song ID and info on the display of the deck, and also charges my ipod. There is NO COMPARISON for sound quality. I have even run the cable for it into my centre console so that the ipod is concealed (there is no need to change anything on the i'pod once it's connected, control is through the deck)

Do yourself a favour and shell out the extra for the adaptor box. You wont be disappointed.
