Dyno result

Friend of mine got his car dyno'd today

It was formerly HRD2BQT's car

It made 120kw atw in 4th gear.
Mods:
2.5" exhaust, cat and Pro-iida extractors
FPR, and apexi air filter

I thought it was quite impressive, and this is on a dyno that I know doesn't read high (autotech in ACT)

Anyway, considering this is a old engine, from japan, which was from a car which was a write off, I thought it is quite good, as K20A from Honda which is a new engine needs more mods than that to make that power, with shorter gearing as well

HRD2BQT originally had the RPW Extractor & I got that off him, as he got the pro iida from somewhere, which i don't remember now.

So the new owner brought it with the pro iida extractor

The pro-iida were on when my friend bought the car
And yeah they still on

The RPW extractors seem to be more equal length but the pro-iida are stainless. I don't know why RPW use mild :(

And, HRD2BQT got the extractors from GPC in sydney, which is a mechanic who got them in a containes (were on an engine)

/drool at Pro-Shop Iida...

I don't think there's anything wrong with mild steel extractors. I wouldn't forsee rust as being an issue due to the heat that builds up inside them as they are so close to the engine.

Anyway, the RPW are available in stainless :D

Yeah, and in 4th gear too
I was impressed

The RPW ones are available in stainless? I didn't know that? How much more are they?

I have mine coated in HPC so they wont rust. I just wanted to save that extra bit of weight from the front for handling.

The MIVEC engine is in a lancer. 740kg over the front wheels, 380kg over the rear wheels. Not a good weight distribution :(

Ok, the FULL list of mods:

2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, straight design (comes under the rear crossmember, with a slight bend for the muffler to sit on the side) with a 5Zigen muffler
3" stainless mesh cat
Pro-iida stainless extractors
Rising rate FPR
Apexi power intake air filter, in a box with CAI
And has a Magna Throttle body but, from what I have heard, even though it is advertised as a 65mm unit, it's really the same as an FTO one

no dyno is the same! A lot of dynos out there are KW happy!

With that power you'll get a high 14, 15 flat!

yeah I agree...do a 1/4 trial on a track and see what your time is...then u'll really know how your car is going!!

The car isn't mine
But, the best time it has done is 14.3 down the track

That was before CAI, pod filter and high flow cat (though it had some high flow cat before, but not as good as this one)

Also, the timing belt was changed as it was a bit lose.

So, with good driving it might do a bit better now

A 1/4 mile time will give you a result as varied as dyno results! Reaction time, tyre pressure, weather conditions etc.

The only way to differentiate between the handful of kilowatts thrown around here is to do a dyno day somewhere.

Speaking of which.... thats not a bad idea!

yeah true! But i'll rather a run down the strip than a piece of paper! Ok i didnt believe the FTO getting into the 14's I've been proven wrong and now we are down to low 14's???? Now i find it hard to believe. Low 14s with a 2.0L NA??? How many 2.0L litres do that????

I agree. A 350z will only do 14.5 roughly and we have proven that. My R33 will do 13.5 on major boost...my FTO...hmmm about 15.5 maybe 16. 14 is quite fast.

Hey Chris is that 14.5sec for 350z is when the traction control on or off? I know when the traction control is off the 350z is bloody fast, a stock one can beat some of the mild mod Skyline & 180sx i know of.

But if its on, even a FTO can give it a hard time :D

was that with slicks spetz u know?
im with payaya, cant work out how a car maybe 50-100kgs lighter does a full 1 sec better down the quarter mile

the time doesnt include reaction time bennoz it times from when u leave, so a pretty good indication of how the fast the car can go but u gotta push the car as much as u can with fast changes and a good launch or u can be about ~half a sec off the cars best/capable time

i once raced a stock excel and they gave him a whole 4 and a half second headstart before i could leave, and i just bet him across the line by like a bonnets length 8O i knew he was gettin a headstart but i was starin at the lights waitin for them to light up straight after he left but got nothing for over 4 secs, then all of a sudden orange and a green light and i ended up gettin a slightly better reation time than him and cos its first across the line in elim's i won ;)

ah good fun the drags...

Understand what your saying mate  Spent much of my wasted youth at the strip. There is a dozen different factors in 1/4 times. I've had time variances of upto 1/2 a second just by f*cking up a gear change! And there a 4 or 5 of them (depending on the vehicle) that you can get horribly wrong or superbly right.
