hey guys..

i was drivin home today when i noticed a squealing noise comming from the rear..

i narrowed it down to the rear left tyre area cos when i brake it stops.. as soon as i let go of the brake it starts again..

and man.. does it sound like a bitch!!

is it somethin to do with the brake pads? or the rotors?

anyone had this problem?

Change your brake pad, it did enough braking

doesnt it usually make noise when u brake that tells u its bout time to change d brake pad?

if you have a look to your caliper, you can see the brake pad.
Brake pads have little metal flaps at the end of them,
when the pads almost at the end of of its life that metal flap starts touching to your disk I think, thats why you get that iccchhhhhhh noise,
It is the noise telling you to change the pad

mmm ok..

i'll have a look at it tomorrow morning.. was goin to change the front 2 so might as well do the whole set now..

First put some air in the tyres. As per the little label in the door jamb or in the booklet.

Second if it's still doing it then tighten the wheelnuts just in case then get your wheel bearing checked as it might of callapsed.

Its not the pads as the squeling STOPS when he APPLIES the brakes

in case your wondering...to check the wheel bearing...take the wheel off (hand handbreak) and see if the disc spins freely/easily...if not your wheel bearing is stuffed.

My R33 has this noise I also assume (hope) its the break pad noise...will be doing this check on the weekend.

No to check the wheel bearing:

Choke the diagnally oposite wheel, leave car in neutral and take hand brake off.
Jack the wheel off the ground, at least 2 to 3 inches of clearence between tyre and ground (leaving wheel on, do not touch wheelnuts)(place a safety stand under vehicle just in case the jack fails) then spin wheel to see if there are any noises. then grab the top and bottom of wheel and rock the wheel back and forth ie push on top of wheel pull on botton and vice versa with some force.
If there is some movement then the wheel bearing needs to be adjusted or replaced.

I got exactly the same problem in my MX5,
It also stops when I apply the brakes, no brakes and iiiccccccchhhhhhh
Also when I swing the car around it stops and start again,
Mine is coming from the right rear as well,
And my problem is definately the brake pad,
Almost nothing left in it.

I think what happens is that, when applying the brakes, that metal making the noise bents or somehow dont contact the disk as much anymore

i checked it out.. and found that the rear brake pads were almost goneeee

andddd to top that off i think my disc's need to be machined..

like i said.. i was goin to change the front two anyway.. well when i took it today to ultratune.. i found out that my rotors needed replacing (just the front two) *great*

so yeah.. now that's front two brake pads replaced.. and new rotors put on them..

goin to get the rear disc machined tomorrow.. and the brake pads replaced for them.

oh.. btw.. i also found that the rear right hand side caliper was jammed dunno how the hell that happened or when it happened.. but yeh..

luckily he could free it up instead of ordering a new one from mitsubishi..
