I've just rebuilt my fto engine for replacements of main, conrod & thrust bearings worned out due to lack of oil...

(was not my fault, bro-inlaw drove through parking pole on the ground and slashed through the oil pan and just kept driving till he couldnt no more)

Have problems starting or combusting the car all the way...it fired up for a couple of secs ( had premature happiness for a sec lol) then it just died out...

The lights in the dash seems to be normal...but just lacks that spark to fully start the car....

*Rechecked the damn timing belt = still in line

*Using new ngk bkr7eix-11 ?? reduce the gap to 0.8mm = possible cause ??

*Rechecked electrical wiring = seems to be in correct places...
BUT is there a connection/wiring just under the pulleys of the air con belt..looks like just a plug-in for something but it doesnt seem to have any wiring nearby connecting to it ???

*Brand new battery

*Purchased that "start ya bastard" spray can..due to all symptoms relating to my problem car...and it didnt work...

*Gonna put the old spark plugs in, see if it makes a difference...

Can anyone share their personal experiences relating to this please..and any useful advice much appreciated !!

I really want to drive my damn car...just got my licence back last week and got no car to drive  .... hate the train & bus...making my booty calls impossible to attend to !!!

i'd be suprised if its your sparks...should make it run easier with a smaller gap of 0.8. the IX series is a good plug - to tell u the truth I didn't know they cam in the 7 series..maybe they are new.

I'm actually running 0.6 gapped plugs...the thing starts with only the slightest touch of the key...!

If the sump has had a hole punched in it, there's a good chance it may also have ripped the wiring out from one of the O2 sensors in the exhaust. I'd be checking that...

But first - If its just been rebuilt, you'd think the garage would have tested it before you picked it up yes?.... any warranty?

i assume the spark plug leads were put back on in the right order?
check the crankangle sensor wiring (in behind the accessory belts)

check your basics, make sure you got spark and fuel.

Ditto the above, it sounds from your description most like the crank angle sensor.

is the cam angle sensor in place and connected? runs from the same mount as crank angle senso and forward under the cambelt cover where the lower and front belt covers join and runs off the fins on the inlet cam pulley on the front bank. the then die symptom you describe suggests this sensor, has it been the crank anggle sensor it wouldnt have started at all the ecu would have stopped it even turning over. Have you tried retreiving error codes from the ecu?

In regards to bennozs question, i didnt take it to the mechanic shop because we have practically all the tools to get the job done and more importantly my dad and a family friend is helping us do the job,who is practically a mechanic. Prior to my car, he had just rebuilt my sisters car and and a few others all completed in very good condition....just seems to be just my car having a bit of a trouble....

I just taken out the air intake manifold and the 4 and 6 cylinder sparkies have a bit of black stuff on the tip (carbon)...

Will have to disconnect all wiring connections and spray with the auto contact cleaner and just recheck everything again (except for the timing belt...everything is inline) on the weekend...

Oh & also have to read that damn article about retrieving error codes from the ecu...

Thanks for your opinions, advices and suggestions guys !!

And in regards to my earlier question about the connection/wiring just under the pulleys of the air con belt, next to the timing belt cover on the bottom right corner facing the engine from the side..

Looks like just a plug-in for something but it doesnt seem to have any wirings nearby connecting to it....

It doesnt seem to be in the engine manual or workshop manual or electrical wiring manual...

oh crap....can't put the pic in....can i send the pic to someone that can help me identify what its for ? promise i won't send a virus to you...
