Car care - polish, wax etc...

OK. I think we need a thread on washing/polishing and waxing. Havng read a number of threads I went with easily avaliable product to test it out.

I have been reading a lot about polish/wax etc..and I'm still a noob but I decided to do what most ppl suggested and buy some of the Meguiars Products.

I bought:
  • NXT Generation Car wash
    Lambswool mit
    Foam Aplicator pack
Microfibre towel + some cheap polish towels
Quik Clay with the Quik Detailer (comes in a pack)
    Scratch X
    Deep Crystal Polish
    NXT Tech Wax
I used the following site as a guide:
http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showth ... eadid=7011

WHy Clay? when i was reading there was a lot of talk about clay'ing your car. So I bought a pack and gave it a go...omfg the stuff seems to work wonders. The paint feels like glass after your've finished and u will be suprised how much crap it picks up after u've just washed it. The pack u get comes with soe sprey but u really just need some soapy water...I used both to lube it up.

I washed the car then clayed the car...all over...made it really smooth....

Then I washed it down, and dried the car.

Next, out comes the ScratchX and the applicator pads. Using the site as a guide I got this working...repeated a few times. I found it wasn't string enough for more severe scratches but I cbf buying more stuff so i just kept going.....using a combo of a mico fibre towel and a polish towel I wiped the stuff off and used the microfibre towel to buff it up....I did sections at a time...say front bumber, bonnet, roof and the back. I worked out the smaller the sections the better..

All swirls and fine scratches were gone...but deeper ones where still there, however already the paint looked fantasic. I will look into a method of getting the deaper scratches out later.

Next comes the Polish...the Deep Crystal one...not deep thoat ok boys. Apply in the same method as the Scratch x...some on the pad, spread evenly over the surface then work it in...wipe it off and buff....looks great.

Finally comes the wax...apply the same as the polish...wipe it off and buff it up by hand with the microfibre towel...your done.

Looks awsome.

Some shots of the front and back...although after these picks I did the back again and it looks better now...pity it was overcast cos the reflection off the paint is a bit dull...

I'm going to do it again next week with some improved technique..i.e. really use the foam pads to work the prodcut in..I tended to use the towels...and not use so much product...anyway...will be good soon.

All swirls gone...shine is up and now protectedwith some wax....nice

Enjoy

looks good Ben...I finiahsed off the rest but the pics are too dark as the sun was gone. I actually tried a bottle of Kitten polish on one side and look the same as the other with the special stuff.

anyway my next door neighbour came over and said its was looking as good as it could - cos of paint chips etc...When I get soem sun I will wash it and take some pics.

I plan to do the bonnet again to try something out...could be even better.

common guys where's the love...polish your cars!

i use Meguires tech wax and then finish off with
Mothers Reflections advanced top coat...
does a BRILLIANT job!!!! :D
Top Coat is designed as the quintessential high-gloss final step. Top Coat has no cleaners and is clearcoat safe — so it can be used on top of any car wax, sealant or glaze. The combination of natural waxes and synthetic polymers gives paint additional gloss, depth and superior protection.
