Was driving yesterday after work and suddenly my scar started to shudder and idling erratically. i got off homebush bay drive and i tried to accelerate and the car just stopped. Felt like it ran out of fuel. Tried to re start and it wouldn't engage.
Before you ask yes it has fuel like 3/4 of a tank.
Am i correct to assume that it could be the fuel pump?

There's a number of things you can check before diagnosing fuel pump as the culprit:
- When was your fuel filter last changed? Pull it off, tap it a number of times on the ground and inspect the contents for dirt and other debris. May be a blocked filter which would just need replacing.
- Can you hear the pump prime when you turn the ignition on? (faint whirring sound in the tank - may need a second person to check)
- Get a second person to hit the fuel tank several times with a rubber mallet (just get them to lie near the rear right tyre) whilst you try and start the car. If it starts, then it's a good indication the fuel pump is on it's way out.
- Also check your fuel supply line to see that the pump is supplying fuel to the car.

Check the basics: fuel, spark and electronics
Fuel - do what kid_dynamite said, also check fuel pressure, maybe your pressure regulator has spat the dummy.
Spark - If there is no spark, the crank angle sensor might of died.
Electronics - If its a non-mivec check the MAF Sensor that the wiring is connected and that it is still attached to the intake, or mivec check the vacuum line to the MAP sensor.
