Hey guys, i opened up the projector unit today cause the left light stopped working. Whats happened is there is a plastic H1 adapter basically holding the H1 globe in place, but it basically melted ...... like wtf?

is there any place i can get these ?

What does it look like - is it a standard light component. If so, Im pretty sure I can help as ive a few broken lights lying around at the moment.

nope, H1 globes are different. It seems like the later model FTO's came out with these in the projector unit. the one pictured is a H4.

why is my setup so different to everyone else? why does my unit use H1 instead of H4?

thats not the facelift ftos and thats the parklight is it?

if not someone could have bodged it up themselves

I may be way off here, but I know you could get projector headlights as an option but I didnt think they were legal here according to the adr rules (and had to be replaced). If this is the case, maybe yours slipped through the system.....

nosman was your car recently imported?? That's the only reason I can think of why you have H1 bulbs in the car.

No FTO ever had a H1 bulb in them from the factory, and I can personally confirm this.

Its recently been imported from japan, its a late model so this might be the case. Its a facelifted model GPX 1997. Yeah my problem is that the plastic adapters are actually melting.

Okay if that's the case I'm pretty sure this is what's happened.

Your FTO came in with the factory xenon headlamps.

Under SEVS any part which the RAWS (workshop) does not have SEVS approval for &/or meet ADR compliance must be removed and destroyed. Xenon headlights on imports do not meet ADRs.

Easiest thing for the RAWS to do with xenons is to remove the ballast/ignitor, and retrofit a halogen lamp in place (this is how you got the H1). Unfortunately this is the way it goes. They do the same thing with xenon headlights on the R34 5kylines.

If you were the one who arranged compliance on the car, I would contact the workshop and tell them it melted and they should replace it. SEVS work is supposed to be of an approved standard and if the housing is melting that's pretty poor.
If you bought it from a car yard, perhaps go back to them and see if they will fix it up.
If you bought it privately, hit up an autoelectrician to either repair the H1 housing, or fit an alternative bulb which will not melt.

Another alternative (but expensive), is to look for a set of 'facelift' halogen (non-xenon) headlights.

well... i bought a set of H4's to put and there to but problem is that the connecter for the light is different because its built for H1's & number 2 it looks like i have to still with H1's lol. I'll send a picture this arvo of my unit and you guys can explain maybe lol.

Auto 'leccy probably the way to go. Modify the mounting to either use a different bulb or one that won't melt. Also check the bulbs aren't too high wattage (heat=melt).

Hey guys.. to bring this topic back to life - i have just found out my passanger side headlight thingy has also melted. mine are H1 bulbs as im assuming later import models take this on board for compliance.

As per my post above. Get a sparky to check the wiring, if it's melted means that they did a shithouse job. Perhaps an upgrade on the headlight wiring, a relay, etc may be needed. Won't cost much to sort out.
